There was a two-player AAR on the Matrix forums, an expert Japanese player versus a new Allied player. The Japanese player was winning handily (mostly because of the Allied player having to learn to play the game as they were playing it), so the Allied player went "gently caress it" and launched an invasion of Hokkaido. It turned out the Japanese had overextended because of overconfidence, so the Allied conquered all of Hokkaido in a few days. Then in a stroke of luck / skill he launched an invasion of Honshu and managed to sink the huge carrier/battleship combined TF the Japanese had rallied to fight off the invasion.

Then the game ended because of "save file corruption" on the Japanese side.
Please tell me you have a link bookmarked somewhere.

Thousands more die at Changsha, the battle is all but decided here.

We shatter another force. This must be making it hard to replace losses in China.

Am I seeing this right? Is GreyHunter Changasha plus Kukong away from liking up the northern and southern fronts?

The first WitP game (requires archives) started December 7th, 2009 and was completed on July 18th, 2013. So that's 3+ years just for that one game, and we've had at least one more abortive attempt before this one.

As an aside, Grey, it'd be cool if you linked to the previous game in your OP or the second post or something, for posterity.

Gery's allied run is also on the lparchive.

Suppose Rangoon is truly empty and Grey takes it asap with no casualties. How much does this change the state of the game?

To fully evaluate your hypothetical, are we to assume Grey is still playing? This is important.
Assume Gray, a player from an alternate universe with sufficient luck to have this happen and sufficient reliability to not make a mistake.

IRL, USS Wasp was sunk on 1942 September 15. Grey is 1 month, 13 days ahead of schedule on the kill.

Congrats!

That's awful and confusing

Red = Japan, Green = Allied (as in the game)
Dark = Current game, Light / dotted = "previous game"
That precisely. We want to know how well Japan and the Allies are doing now versus last time. A "correct" visualization will reflect the two important factors by changing one visual component per factor.

However, at this point it's not too important so long as you know to compare yellow to blue and orange to green.

Once you run out of planes/pilots, just convert the carriers back to their originally intented state of glorious cruisers/battlecruisers/battleships/tourist traps.

Then we can finally say that the carrier idea was fun but ultimately unsustainable.
Turn them into floating all-girls high schools!

Loss of an IJA division, c'est la vie. Let's get to the more important question: how irreplaceable are those xAKs and LSTs? How much does that delay the IJN's inevitable victory?

I feel like a dud bomb hitting directly would have done more damage than what Junyo took. Maybe the historical inaccuracy in scouting reports also transfers to damage reports these days.
Rather than play down the damage, they played up the size of the bomb dropped on them. Next thing you know ships will claim to have survived nukes.
