I played some of the first PSP one and it was good but I lost interest after a while. That happens to me a lot so it shouldn't deter you from trying the game.

one of the main strengths of the game is the world building and how much stuff everyone has to say. pretty much every npc in the game has something to say about almost everything that happens, if i remember correctly

the only problem i've got with trails in the sky is that the ending of the first game was so intense that it made me think I could do another 40 hour long JRPG, and I burnt out like 10 hours into SC.

Trails is good poo poo, it's well written and has typical kickin falcom tunes.(tho the first game is more chill relaxing tunes than the metal shredding that comes durig the second game) Battle system is like the materia system from FF7 with turn order listings like FFX that you can abuse to your advantage with speed/slow buffs, and sometimes turns have special bonus effects, so if you know the turn 3 down from you is gonna have a definite critical effect, you can manipulate the turn order to rek poo poo. It's a fun bit of strategy. Cold steel adds in combo linking to other characters and the ability to skip battle animations.

Yo In Training if you have the option I would reccomend playing the games in order. A lot of the plot of these games is predicated on some pretty amazing character reveals and Cold Steel's entire thing is based around a major reveal at the end of Sky SC. You can still fully enjoy CS on its own but I imagine alot of the stuff in it would hit harder if You have at least those first two games under your belt. Plus theres alot of world building you miss out from that's thankfully tucked away in the school library for you to read but its not the same as actually experiencing it for yourself.

I haven't started cold steel yet. Is the gameplay still good in the older games? I usually play series in order but a cursory glance at some truly bonkers breakdowns on chronology and crap made cold steel seem like a spin off or parallel story?
