Christian Hackenberg Thanks Everyone But His Coach While Declaring For NFL Draft

Christian Hackenberg posted:

"I think, right now, I'm going to declare for the draft. I want to thank [former] Coach [Bill] O'Brien for bringing me here and his staff. There's a lot of really good people on that staff. It's tough to say but, I think without him, I wouldn't have been here. He's what this place is all about.

"I want to thank the fans, you guys, for always being there – challenging me at times, making me get better. I think the fans and the alumni and the lettermen mean so much to this place, and it's a really special place.

"It's tough at times, but they bleed blue and white, and so do we. I want to thank [quarterbacks] coach [Ricky] Rahne and [former offensive coordinator] coach [John] Donovan. Both those guys stuck by me the entire way, fought for me, had my back.

"The strength staff [Dwight Galt and Tommy Galt], all those guys, they were awesome to work with, fun to be around.

"Then lastly, [trainer] Tim Bream and [video director] Jevin Stone, two guys I spent a lot of time with in my years here. They both were really special to me. And then [communications specialist] Tony Mancuso is another guy I spent a lot of time with, and he's meant a lot to me.

"It's been an awesome ride. Tough way it kind of ended, but I bleed blue and white, and this place means the world to me. You're going to see me around a lot."

For those keeping score, he thanked former coach Bill O'Brien, the fans, the alumni, the QB coach, the former offensive coordinator, the strength staff, a trainer, a video director, and a communications specialist, but didn't find time to mention James Franklin.

I'll buy a Hackenberg jersey if he's a starter for an NFL team by this time in 2026 :toxx:

It's a foolproof plan. There is no way I'm still alive, he's still in the league, this forum's still around, and any of his jerseys are still expensive/made by then

He's still a better NFL prospect than Tebow

Geno Smith was also a better prospect than Tebow.

I forgot which ESPN announcer had the hot take, but they summed up Tebow perfectly. "The only thing better then having all the intangibles is actually having tangibles."

I feel like Hackenberg might actually succeed if only because he is definitely not starter material. The NFL has a bad habit right now of burning through rookie QBs and putting too much pressure on them. Hackenberg could ride the bench for a few seasons and turn a respectable Brock Osweiler performance in the end.

Probably less saying that to genuinely thank John, and more as an additional middle finger to Franklin.

Serious question: when is the last time a QB who played dumb as poo poo in college became a good NFL player?

Because when I saw Hackenberg he looked football stupid.

Geno went about where he should have while Tebow should have been like, in that 4th-5th round areas guys like Landry Jones and McCarron go in.

Tonight Hack played 3+ quarters and went 11-31 for 54 yards, no touchdowns and a pick six. Somehow even that stat line doesn't accurately describe how loving terrible he looked.

Even the pick six was a horrible-looking throw (albeit under pressure and falling down); it wasn't like the defender jumped the route and caught an otherwise well_-throw ball chest-high.

I love that Christian Hackenberg was dogshit in college, everybody with half a brain knew he would be dogshit in the pros, some dumbass team wasted a second-round pick on him and he was, in fact, dogshit in the pros.

Who's the last QB to be this predictable of a draft flop? Jimmy Clausen?
