if I had to choose between hisoka or the other spiders to stay alive I'd prefer to keep the spiders. I sort of like them more at this point.

Nen restrictions creating power is one of the more genius inventions I've seen in a sci-fi setting. "Why not just do the obvious thing instead of the convoluted thing that makes for a good conflict?" Because by the laws of nature convoluted things are magically stronger. It's perfection.

Gon more or less decides to kill himself during CA and it's totally believable. How is that not character development? And CA is the arc where Killua grows the most, he stops relying on Gon entirely after the needle pull and during that awesome series of chapters where he's off on his own playing darts and making friends with the octopus. The whole idea at the end is that he'd grown so independent of Gon that he didnt recognize how turbofucked gon's situation was. I'm actually at a bit of a loss how the takeaway from CA is that nobody's personality developed, it's what makes the entire thing work.

Truthfully Gon gets the ultimate power up during CA. Though I'm also partial to Shoot's ultimate technique of standing on his hand. I think his art is pretty amazing... Not just the turkey, I don't think anyone else could have drawn Gon vs Nefelpitou or Fei Tan vs Lizard Queen like he did. I'll admit there hasn't been anything since CA that made me think he had to be the one illustrating it though.

I think having dozens of unknown nen users all in the same place is a really unusual occurrence in HxH terms. Sure we saw it in chimera ant and here but these are very abnormal circumstances. I think Nobunaga and Hinrih are being implausibly reckless here but I'll overlook it because it's entertaining and this is a very unusual scenario.

It's hard to recommend things like HxH because it does so many different things so well. It's this fantastical shounen that never lost its sense of absolute mortal peril (while somehow not being depressing). The end of Jojo4 is the closest thing but it's still like not even close. Other mangas that feel as dangerous/exhilarating tend to be death game genius mangas like Death Note or Gambling Emperor Zero but they're completely different there's nothing with the same kind of fantastical bent to it (or the SSS character design).

I think pike has a lot of manga archetypal "gay pervert" features (see Pri pri prisoner and Okama island for the shared visual traits I mean), which is really not typical in this series. But its the one fanservice fight in the entire series where Shizuku gets disrobed so I guess its kind of nicer for him to have zero interest in her? (I havent watched the anime.)
