I think it's important to know that Pluggers was originally by Jeff MacNelly, and when he was writing it it had a bit more edge. MacNelly mostly did editorial cartoons and won several Pulitzers and a Reuben, so there's your frame of reference. Brookins has taken that edge away, in my view.

After drawing the flapper strip Gay and Her Gang in 1928-29, she took over Ethel Hays' Flapper Fanny Says panel, which she did for NEA from 1930 to 1936. She also did a comic strip series for Lux Soap during the 1930s.

During World War II, Parker created the strip Betty G.I. for the Women's Army Corps, and she also stepped in to draw Russell Keaton's Flyin' Jenny from 1942 until 1944 when his assistant Marc Swayze took over.

Under the name Gladys Parker Designs, her clothing line was sold in stores as early as 1934, capitalizing on her fame as the artist of Flapper Fanny Says. Parker also designed for films, such as her 1940 white sharkskin suit worn by actress Louise Platt. Living in Hollywood with her two black cats, Parker also wrote a daily column, "Dear Gals and Guys", during the 1960s.

I want to give continued props to most every comic printed before about 1970, but particular thumbs-up for newcomer Gay and her Gang and good ol' Feiffer. Please keep posting them. Gay is well-drawn and funny - this is what 9CL desperately wishes it actually were. Being drawn by a woman probably helps, huh? I can't tell you just how skeeved I felt when I learned "Brooke Eldowney" was a man. And Feiffer shows us (mostly) timeless commentary.

This MW-Olive story goes back to before Thanksgiving, by the way. In that time, nothing has happened. They've seen some sites in NYC, Mary has told Olive some weird platitudes without any real reason provided by the context, Olive's parents can't keep their hands off each other, and they met a homeless guy and visited that baker that's pining for Mary despite no contact for a couple years now.

Good Time Guy was a humorous syndicated comic strip distributed by Metropolitan Newspaper Service from 1927 to 1929.
It was begun by prolific screenwriter Bill Conselman under the pen name of Frank Smiley, and well-established artist Mel Cummin.
