Once you get in the habit of grabbing Chuckya light it's all downhill (well, uphill with BLJ) from there.

TASVideos published a new any%/1-key run of SM64.

By using the "squish cancel" technique (getting squished and unsquished in the same frame to preserve/redirect speed), dabs shaved 5 seconds* off of Bowser in the Sky. This, combined with a few other 0.5-5 frame saves brings the console any% time for Mario 64 down to 4:15.78 (or 4:20.69 if you prefer).

:eyepop: So the only B buttton presses left for 120 star on US are to grab King Bob-omb, Bowser, and MIPS, all of which seem kinda fundamentally unavoidable.

For those wondering about the any% A button challenge, this recently dropped: https://tasbot.sm64.us/bitfs

Hooking up the newly improved cloning brute-forcer to the swimming brute-forcer was still not enough to find this time save. (Painstaking detail in the description.)

So apparently the SM64DS B button challenge (DS's B is the jump button) was just essentially completed (0 or 0.5 presses for all 150 stars, depending on the version), if you allow the controversial very major glitch ("RIG") that the DS version has.

RIG is basically "if 2^32 objects are spawned, the game gets confused about which object Yoshi is eating" so you can eat a star by eating things like the 2^32-53rd fire to spawn or whatever. It's controversial because a typical application takes hundreds of years.

So you just have to wait ~20000 years of game time and you can have all the stars without jumping

I imagine they're still working on eliminating B presses that are needed if you're avoiding that glitch, though.

Yeah, that strat for LLL: Elevator tour in the Volcano 0xA that takes nearly 26 hours and required a big brute-forcer in C# was cool and all, but what if there was a way to do it that was over 1500 times faster?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_2K_2UOcNM

---

And in SM64DS, the star "Behind the Waterfall Balloon" was at 1xB in 46 seconds (or 0xB in ~1000 years using the super-broken Remote Interaction Glitch exclusive to the DS version).
But now it can be done 0xB in about a minute using "Quantum Tunneling" (which I think just means falling through a seam):
