Pollyanna posted:You realize that’s just gonna make me morbidly curious, right? The short of it is the suggested encounter was a gnoll frat house. The GM turned this into a gnoll frat house where they kidnapped a young girl and planned on raping her in her sleep. The PCs find this and get so angry that the ensuing combat turns into torture porn that ends with burning the last gnoll alive while they peel off all the other gnolls' faces in front of him. The GM had enough sense to put a warning at the front of the episode, but really he should have axed and redone the entire thing. It left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth and I wouldn't blame anyone if it turns them off from the show entirely, but for what it's worth I'm 17 episodes deep and everything else has been harmless (if vulgar and raunchy) fun.

A big part of TAZ is that the DM has his story written, and the players are willing to buy in to it, and to a certain extent bend their characters to go along with it. There's nothing wrong with this, but D&D rarely works like this.

dogsicle posted:both of those are funnier than taz on a regular basis but taz actually has writing and characters to get attached to, plus better production. personally i value humor over most of that stuff so i've gradually fallen off taz though. This is more or less where I am now. TAZ got me into the whole actual play thing, and I think Eleventh Hour will forever be one of my favorite D&D things, but my tastes have (d)evolved and now I want morons talking about dragon genitalia and giving big bads the stupidest voices they can

The best answer is that each arc has a different ratio of stupid goofs to dramatic storytelling. Tres Horny Boys being idiots never disappears from the story though.

All the other actual play podcasts I listen to ¥Dragon Friends, NADDPOD, Dungeon Rats) sit in the typical podcast length of 40-60 minutes. Critical Role really is the exception where it's less of a curated and edited show, and more a group's play session uploaded for public viewing.

Listening to the first episode of TAZ again, it sounds like Justin did the fantasy name generator thing of "throw a bunch of letters together without saying it out loud"

sexpig by night posted:yea I gotta download that, I have a friend into MMA who also used a mask for exactly one fight prep and described as 'so bad I was eager to just get to the fight and get punched'. I read an article a while back digging into the studies on those training masks, and the conclusion was that if they made any difference at all, it was that it made you perform worse. Boy howdy, was the comments section on that one a fun ride.

Judge Schnoopy posted:Is there some scientific article to back this up? I don't want to call horseshit without asking first. Think about it this way: Faces with double-digit numbers have more surface area carved out, and will therefore be lighter and land upwards more often. Loading them all to one side makes it more likely that you'll get higher rolls. Casinos use dice with the holes filled in for this exact reason. I mean, most dice aren't tested if they're balanced regardless, but pet peeves are gonna be pet peeves.

Has there ever been a TAZ liveshow where the last third of the adventure didn't have to be crammed into the last ten minutes?

Yeah color me surprised that they're skipping Boston, because Boston show tickets sell out in like 10 minutes. I can only assume the theater was booked up.

At least the guy who used a live show to advertise his own podcast got booed into oblivion.
