I think it's pretty easy to see how serfs might have been better off than early wage workers and indentured servants You could definitely argue that it's still true today, at least for people making minimum wage I mean, you're basically a slave, but at least you have property and there's something of a Hobbes style social contract thing happening. There's no true incentive for the factory owner to be good to the worker other than maybe labor competition or legal requirements

Also let's not pretend like anyone here actually cares deeply about African tribal conflict or whatever. That stuff is bad but there's nothing I can do about it and it doesn't affect me. But stuff happening in the West does and I can affect it

Also, it's weird to assume everyone is secretly hateful when I can assume everyone is nice and deal with the hateful people as the outlier instead of whatever online depressive poo poo your talking about

I guess what I'm saying is it's starting to bother me how apparently the only Marxists I've ever met online or in real life who don't immediately treat everyone else as The Enemy (unless they're a minimum wage worker or a union member) is old commune hippies. And those guys are weirdos

Mane it's because I haven't been and still haven't really gotten deep into the marxist community but based on the people I know it wouldn't be hard to convince a lot of people that American capitalism doesn't work and we need to try something new

i know this is hard to think of in a post cold war world, but, regional power is what nations are before they become super powers. regional superpower doesnt even make sense. either you can project influence or force across the world at will, or you can't.

My laymans interpretation of the USSR, is that it's the same thing that always happens with revolutions. They're bloody and don't always resemble the movement that started the fire Anyway it was pretty much a fascist state in all but name during Stalins regime

In what way is a dictator with unlimited power performing purges of those who don't agree with or rival him not resemble a fascist state.

The only PSL email I've gotten since registering on election day is one asking me to buy their feminist magazine. I'm starting to think these guys consist 100% of Berkeley students and they don't want to talk with me because I'm probably a deranged NorCal redneck (they're right) but jeez louise. I guess I could just show up to meetings like a normal person but like, I'm not the typical trust fund California leftist so, you know. I actually have to work. Least they could do is ask me to help set up chairs or something.

To clarify fit those not on the up and up about California red neck politics: everyone, literally everyone in this part of the county is either a straight up communist, a libertarian, a Mormon theocrat or a nihilist who gave up voting 40 years ago
