Freedom Wars on the other hand seemed like it was a bit too ambitious and threw everything but the kitchen sink in.

I don't think SS is a bad game, I do prefer both those other games to it though I also don't consider it a MH style game at all.

IA\VT Colourful is another fun rhythm game if you want another one as well as Taiko. They're the only type of Japanese game I ever import since they're easy to figure out and rarely have any story.
