Punishment time! We could either Suspend or Expel Bobbi but these (especially expulsion) are a last resort option and her crime isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things. Detention is an Intimidation vs Intimidation roll, where the intimidator (Thais, in this case) locks the suspect in a room and looms over them acting tough until they break and admit their crimes. We know that Thais can do this, she has 19 more intimidation than Bobbi does. You may also notice the red bars to the left of our minions' portraits. This is their stress. Their stress bar has the same numeric value as their loyalty, and as far as I'm aware, each action fills up the stress bar by 5. Since the stress and loyalty values pull from the same stat, increasing loyalty makes the stress bar bigger, meaning that a minion can take more actions before she has full stress and needs a break. Stress also goes down by taking days off, so Vonne and Rowan's stress will go down today! So since each of our minions has their own personality and beliefs, sometimes they'll come to us and complain when they do things that they generally disagree with. Mallory is basically made out of rainbows and smiles so she absolutely hates it when we intimidate people, even if its necessary. She really doesn't like bullies and wants to make super sure that we don't become one. As far as I'm aware, every minion has an objection to something in this way, but in my normal play I've only ever encountered Mallory and Thais' complaints. I do have access to the games' script though so I can find out and show them off sometime! This'll be handy for when Thais is tied up interrogating a more difficult suspect and we need to send in someone less skilled to someone else. Vonne also brings us a veiled threat, which gives us +10 intimidation. Score! By far the easiest way to figure out a traitor is to look at this screen after a while and pick the odd one out. Things look pretty good for now though, we've only had one roll that wasn't a clear success and that was pretty close, numerically. Its also the weekend! We can go visit two of our minions to learn something about them and to increase their loyalty, with each time you go visit them increasing their loyalty (and thus their stress bar) by 5. This was before I discovered that the game has quicksaves so unfortunately you won't be able to vote on who to go see but I went with what I thought the thread would vote for if we could have. So next update, we'll be visiting Rowan since she's our romance option this time, and Vonne because I have a hunch. See you next time! So its thread vote time! How should we distribute our 3 skill points? We can distribute them however we like, so for example we could give Vonne two points and Mallory one. The only problem with that is that being in the training room takes up an action for the day, and only one girl can be in there at a time so consider that when voting. Secondly, one skill point equals a one-point increase in one skill. This is why getting through cases quickly is so important, especially in the early game since a lot of the later cases will need really high numbers and you really need to be able to keep up. So thread, I need to know which minion to train and what skill, by how much! Voting begins now and will last until Wednesday, when I'll record the next week!

Is this game better played with a flexible team, or a focused one? For now, my vote is to train Althea's social. Talking to people seems important, and depending on how the stats get added up she might also be better at harassing than her sister.

This is purely my experience, but I tend to go more for min-maxed teams because I usually can only get about 75% of my cases solved and even then I don't solve them fast enough to earn a decent amount of skill points, so I can never afford to spread points out since later targets can have really high points to roll against. Also Althea actually is better at harassment than Boob Window right now. The game calculates a roll by adding up the relevant stats, rolling a d20, then doing the same for the opponent, so for regular harassment, Althea has a base of 70 (30 intimidation + 40 social) to work from while Boob Window has 55 (40 intimidation + 15 social). Incidentally, these calculations mean that Althea's just as good at questioning and general social abilities as Mallory, so she's probably the best overall rounded character, mechanically speaking.

I agree that it's better to pick your favourite characters and concentrate on improving their strengths. In addition to what ChaosArgate said, the way the stress mechanic works means that you'll have more opportunities to use your higher-loyalty characters, so it makes sense to focus more on their stats. My vote is for putting the points we've got into Rowan's stealth: we've already decided to pay attention to Rowan, and stealth checks are often pretty tricky to pass even early in the game.

When I played I was convinced in my first two weeks that Thais was my traitor; she'd had a few fails and brought back a bunch of lemons when I sent her to the closet. But as the weeks went on the Thais started doing better and Mallory just kept on getting too many "too close to call" results on the Social checks I was using her for. That was...galling, to say the least, as I was trying to be the Good President that Mallory wanted me to be. Especially because you can't confront the traitor until certain points, so I was stuck making nice and friendly to the bitch who was stabbing me in the back. It reminded me a lot of my own experience at school, where the social order had a very strict "never criticise anyone to their face" rule that got you socially ostracised if you initiated a confrontation instead of handling it through back channels (bitch to your friend, who would quietly relay your displeasure to a friend of your enemy, who would in turn relay it to them).

Have Vonne and Mallory both stalk one of the best friends and send either sister to harass either of the members in the other case. Edit: Whoops, forgot to outline actual game plans for the cases. Best friends: stalk the two best friends to see if anything's out of the ordinary, talk to the roommates to see if there's any other changes in behavior that we can't see by just observing them. I've played the game already, so I'm going to stay out of 'how should we handle this case' discussions. I definitely haven't seen everything yet though, so it'll be interesting to see what's new to me in the LP. I would point out that figuring out who the traitor is gets a bit harder if you put the difficulty up to hard. On the default settings, dice rolls are weighted in your favour, with all of your minions rolling high numbers more often than they should, so it really stands out when someone rolls low. Hard makes the dice rolls truly random, so it's much more common for a loyal minion to fail tasks through sheer bad luck.

We have a new target in this case now, Sharron, the new friend. We also have two options for how we can deal with this situation. We can try the diplomatic approach and talk to Keely, Sharron and Makkah and ask them all to get along and play nicely together OR we can be more direct and try to tear apart this new and beautiful friendship in order to make Makkah happy. Its up to you, thread! So you have two decisions to make. First of all We have two training points in reserve, should we spend them or hoard them and if we're spending them, who will be getting which stat raised? Secondly, how do we approach the rest of our case? You decide, friends!

Is that girl's name really Trouble? Wow. Let's see. Vonne's looking pretty useless now, gee I wonder who the traitor might be. I think you should probably try to talk it out with the girls first and see if you can figure out what their situation is without tearing them apart from one another. I have this feeling that doing that would end with us losing more Karma than we'd gain. Unfortunately, most of the girls seem to have high Observation + Stealth scores, making Questioning more difficult. At the very least, question Sharron with Althea or Mallory so we can see her stats but after that I'm not sure what else to do. Maybe she'll have a low score and we get something good out of her. Oh and we should give those two points to Rowan's Stealth again.
