New thread for this game a full week before it's out?

Hm....

Just how many of you are reviewers with review codes? (I know ImpAtom probably has one...)

Hey, if they have a sword mod that lets you shred armor, it really will be Rules of Nature time.

Speedball

Maybe it's ghost grenades. Those were always useful on a grenade-specced heavy in Enemy Within.

They've been vague about a lot of the endgame stuff and a lot of the later-on goodies, but this is nothing new. Firaxis was even resistant to admit they had blaster bomb launchers back when Enemy Unknown was in previews. They are very stubborn about playing with all their cards close to their chest.

I'm curious about one of the upcoming DLCs they promise in the spring, the one that mentions "elite" aliens and XCOM having new elite alien hunter specializations. Hmm... Procedurally generated extra-hard missions that generate more loot, like Slingshot only random?

If I'm reading it right, the "Fortress" ability makes Psi Operatives immune to exploding cars too, right?

Speedball

Torrannor posted:

I hope so, although the Grenadiers Blast Armor did nothing against exploding cars in one of Beagle's streams.

That seemed to reduce the grenade damage at least. The Armor soaked up 1 damage and the 66% resistance soaked up the rest, so they only took 1 damage from their own kamikaze grenade.

I know the Skulljack gif is from this video, but a link to the whole thing ought to be in the OP because I love it. Its end is especially great.

Are sectopods back and willing to drop artillery from deep within the fog of war on unsuspecting rookies? I need to know

Sectopods are back and worse than ever. They have a stance system where they can hunker close to the ground squat like before, or stand up very tall on extendo-legs. They can charge straight through walls like Berserkers used to and have a variety of other nasty abilities we probably haven't seen yet.

One thing Apocalypse could have stood to have is a little more transparancy about what factions did what within the city.

A houndmaster class that detects enemies through walls passively, sics their dog on enemies to make them bleed, delivers unpinned grenades through hallways to drop at enemies' feet, pins an enemy down by biting their leg or other stuff might be interesting.

They've been evasive on whether or not SHIVS are in this game. I mean, they probably will be? Firaxis didn't even want to admit they had blaster bomb launchers back when EU was in development.

Just got done listening to a summery of Xcom 2: Resurrection. My theory was wrong. Xcom failed in the first 2-3 months. Only ever downed 2 UFOs (one of them being the Avenger). They did not even get attacked and wiped out, they just got shutdown and disbanded.

Also the book is awful and a massive waste of time to even listen to a summary.

Oh, man, it's sad when my writing is better than officially licensed novels.

I thought until recently that Xcom came to be due to backlash from the bureau announcement.

It was in development at least as long as the Bureau was but for some drat reason 2K decided that Bureau was the big-money project everyone would be excited about and so only advertised it at first while Firaxis' strategy game was kept hush-hush until only a year before it came out.

It was a strange and stupid year for games. And not the first time a beloved strategy game got replaced by a first person shooter (they also did that with Syndicate).

I think the reason the overwatch failed to shoot Possessed Ryan is because he was a Ranger with Lightning Reflexes, ignoring enemy overwatch

Now that I think on it, I wonder if Solace works even during an enemy action. Say a sectoid dominated a ranger and sent him to chop up my psi op. Would he be freed of control and abort his attack as he got close?

Beagle promised he was gonna try to save as many civs as he could but he still didn't rush enough during the terror mission. Too many civs getting cut down by stormtroopers.

I like it. You NEED to go out there and put your troops in the line of fire to win retaliation missions. No more turtling.

Yeah. It looks like Battle Scanners take some of the sting out of them but they're still nasty customers.

And I underestimated the usefulness of Phantom Rangers, on missions where you normally get no concealment they still start in concealment. And it looks like Phantom Rangers are great for rescuing civvies.

I'm going with my "mental time travel" fanon theory. Ethereals let humans in in game 1, come back earlier with foreknowledge of everything in game 2, kill XCOM before it even gets off the ground.
