occasionally you'll get a mission that's really tight for time, but the large majority of the time you'll have a lot of time to spare unless you try to overwatch creep. Then there's missions with no time constraints and you get to do some really powerful stuff with concealment ranger scounting to set up cheesy overwatch traps without the EW overwatching creeping.

The procedural maps are really good, and only need a couple of tweaks to fix the rare insane size+8 turn timers.

failing most of the timed objectives don't even lose you the mission, you just miss out on a reward.

I think the timed evac ones are the only ones with a hard timer, actually?

1: looks like poisoned people can poison people who are standing next to them
2: often you're in a poison (or fire) spot, and if you don't move you're not poisoned or not on fire, but as soon as you leave in any direction you get poisoned / catch fire
3: poison seems to last a random amount of turns instead of doing a set amount of damage like in the last game (possibly not the case, just an observation

I just got someone get poisoned by standing next to someone else. That person had just got over being poisoned. As a result I lost 2 squad members when I was going to be just down one in my first blacksite mission, lol. at least my sniper is still alive. Rip in Pieces, high ranking ranger.

Beaglerush would stand a person next to panicked people, in the time I saw him play. Does that help reduce panic? I've read the manual and none of this stuff is mentioned. Just seems annoying :(

i just had a 1 health poisoned lancer run around for 5 turns killing civilians on a terror mission. Poison actually does damage and not just a stat debuff to enemies right?

Turn Timers and why this game is not a strategy title.
No, I dont think the game is too hard.

No, I'm not going to play on recruit, so dont bother.

The turn limit issue has nothing to do with difficulty. Theres no strategy variety. You cant ♥♥♥♥ing use any strategy. Your only viable strategy is GOTTA GO FAST SANIC GOGOGOGO OH ♥♥♥♥ I LOST A GUY OH WELL GOTTA GO FAST GOTTA GO FAST!

Who at Fireaxis thought putting 15 enemies on a tiny map, giving the player 4-6 soldiers, and making them move 4 turns worth of distance + 1 turn of hacking and forcing them to complete in 8 turns was a good idea.

No ambushes. No sniping. No planning. Nothing.

Run to the objective. If you get ♥♥♥♥ed up, reload. Thats this game. Thats all this ♥♥♥♥ is.

No, I dont think combat is too difficult. Its about the same as EW with long war. Its pretty nice.

The issue is, the game is balanced around a dumbass timecap, so even if you DID mod the turn timer out, the game instantly because laughably easy and stupid.

Its like Fireaxis decided that using any semblance of actual military tactics was dumb, and because we are "guerillas" we should do THE EXACT OPPOSITE of insurgent warfare and run around in the open like dummies.

Sorry gents, just because you are freedom fighters, doesnt mean you have to constantly and blatantly put yourself into ignorant situations where you have a very confined amount of time to reach your objectives, placing your soldiers into unnecessary danger.

In fact, you'd think Super Commander McBadass wouldnt ♥♥♥♥ing take on missions which are inherently stupid and completely imbalanced risk vs reward.

How is it so difficult to defeat an alien army when they just ♥♥♥♥ing stand around waiting to be shot on every single map until you break concealment, instantly alerting all enemies within 2 miles of your presence, giving them a nice window to run behind you and gank your soldiers?

Oh whats that you say? Overwatch? Protect your flank?

LOL GOTTA GO FAST SANIC ONLY HAS 3 TURNS LEFT. SEE YA ROOKIE!

Come on guys. Tedium and forced perma death arent difficulty. They are tedium.

I think it's a thing where if you're better at the game, Phantom gets infinitely better. It's not that I don't understand the value of concealment, I love Conceal even though it's a trade off from RnG, it's more that when I'd pick up Phantom I want all hands on deck in a 4 man party so the most it does is let them sneak mission into a flank. Which isn't bad but it's hard to find a flank to is a flank and doesn't expose them in case they find more aliens. By the time I pick up Conceal, my soldiers are better and I have a 5 man party so that leaving someone in concealment isn't as harsh. Maybe I need to try a Solid Snake build with both Phantom and Conceal?

running a shotgun ranger with both and a rifle ranger with just phantom p much trivialized the game from that point on. The only times a pod survived to take shots back at me was when multiple walked into range.

I have no idea how I beat the fortress without losing any soldiers. Especially considering how...messy this campaign was. Between learning this game's mechanics, and unlearning XCOM's, the beginning was rough. It was a good while after the Blacksite (which I didn't exactly race to) before I finally started feeling like I was getting control instead of of flailing wildly. I almost neglected getting more coms up and nearly lost because I couldn't reach any enemy facilities for the longest time to control the Avatar Counter (it got to the doomsday clock before I could).

Beating the final mission with "conventional" gear, beating it on Commander by July 1st, and beating it on Commander without upgrading squad size sound kinda nuts. Beating the game on Commander without losing a single soldier doesn't even seem possible without frequent save-scumming.

Are there any videos floating around yet that show someone who is super good at this game just clearing house on the crazy difficulties / Iron Man runs? I'm learning a lot as I go, but I feel like there are a ton of cool tricks that I just don't know about.

So need some help / advice on a part of the game that is pretty early on that I'm having an insane time with.

The scripted defense against the UFO event where you have to run out and blow up the EMP device seems to be a pretty poorly designed scenario unless I'm just really missing something. What's the best way to beat this thing without either getting wiped out or taking so many casualties that you end up pretty much being hosed if you do succeed? It wouldn't be as bad if I actually maybe had armor or second tier weapons but it happens so early in the game that I haven't had a chance to research that stuff coupled with how you have to run around trying to establish radio beacons just to stay ahead of the stupid doom clock. Maybe I need to knock the difficulty down to Veteran?

concealment ranger + snipers trivializes the whole thing
