Cruz is basically pulling off an 8 point swing against Trump. Trailed by 4.5 in polls, might win by 3.5% Can he pull of 10% swings in NH or SC, where he doesn't have the Iowa ground game advantage he had tonight??? AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SAVE US TRUMP

Trump still have a lot of precincts out in Dubuque, Woodbury, & Plymouth County (decent size, and Trump leads so far), BUT I don't think enough for a comeback. I think Cruz is going to pull out a 2-3% win by the end of the night.

a cop posted:The thing about Trump is that he's in it to win it, to a degree (imo) well above and beyond the other candidates. He's shown a capacity to adapt and evolve well above the others in the race. After tonight he's going to rev up his primary efforts x9000 fold. Also he clearly got new voters to turn out, and neither Rubio or Cruz has anything remotely resembling Cruz's Iowa organization and ground game in NH or SC. If Trump loses NH, I'll panic for sure. Sucks he couldn't pull of the sweep though from beginning to end.

Joementum, if this holds, roughly what will the GOP Iowa delegate count look like? 30 delegates total, right?

blue squares posted:Hey Boosted are you switching to Cruz or Rubio? If Trumps hold onto at least 1% of his 22% lead in NH and wins there, he will get my vote in SC. If Trump loses to Cruz or Rubio, I'll vote for Cruz. Ugh. He's slime, but Open Border Marco Amnesty Rubio would ensure no more GOP presidents after him (or SCOTUS nominations) for a LOOOONG time and also more economic suffering for Americans.

Joementum posted:His supporters did not caucus. Can we say that? Turnout so far at 80% reporting looks like 150,000+ It looks more like Cruz's organization, ground game, and data were all legit and he has outperformed his polling big time. Can he do the same in NH or SC with huge trumps leads, in primary states and not caucuses, with nothing close to his Iowa organization?

Voyager I posted:Is this actually the death of Trump? It feels more like winning Iowa would have been a terrifying upset, but if he makes a respectable showing and then goes on to win NH, a much more favorable state, he may still be a viable candidate, and coming in at 24% in Iowa is still way too many people turning out for him for me to be entirely comfortable calling it curtains. I guess it will largely depend on how he reacts. Exactly. Caucus + Cruz ground game + small lead in the polls + turnout was at least high Going forward in NH and SC - Primaries + No Cruz Iowa Ground Game + LARGE Trump lead in polls. Only question is will high turnout repeat?

LOL at anyone who though Trump would get ugly. He wasn't expected to win Iowa until the last week when Cruz took a poll nose dive. The expectation for 1-2 months had been close loss in Iowa, win NH and SC. If he loses NH, THEN he'll throw a hissy-fit.

What is all this rights being taken away talk about? The GOP ALREADY HAS a majority on SCOTUS. The same SCOTUS that has legalized gay marriage and upheld PPACA. And that hasn't in all these years of having a majority gotten rid of abortion. It's a Democrat president that is the thread to civil liberties via SCOTUS nominations. The 4 Democrats HAVE voted lock-step against private property rights, the 1st amendment, the 2nd amendment, etc.

For all the "Cruz can't win the general" folks: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/general_election_cruz_vs_clinton-4034.html And none of these are LIKELY voter polls. REGISTERED voter polls inflate the Democrat's performance. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/registered-voter-polls-will-usually-overrate-democrats/
