Caucuses are really dumb. Want to feel even worse about it? Sometimes if they are winning by enough and if enough delegates are being awarded in a precinct the presently winning group will send just enough people over to the last place person to keep them from being declared non-viable. This can prevent the second place person from picking up an extra delegate. The last place non-viable candidate is probably going to drop out in a few days/weeks anyway leaving that delegate up for grabs when things get finalized in a few months.
