Theres nothing wrong with alcohol culture though. I know people who can drink a case of beer on their own and they dont get to a point where they are punching randoms in the streets.

~Story time~
For the record I used to be a pretty sedentary person (gaming 5-7hrs a night, no exercise ever, desk job) who has never been into sports or fitness or anything to do with active lifestyles. I was comfortable with my lovely diet and lovely lifestyle because they enabled each other. I don't even know why I did it but I joined a gym about 6 months ago. I hate the idea of gyms and the stereotypes. everything about the 'gym person' image was the exact opposite of what I am. I didn't even want to do it. I didn't want to be muscle-y, I didn't want to lose weight, I didn't want to get sweaty and exert myself.

I went from not even being able to complete a single pushup to doing 60 in a row without much hassle in 6 months. Its a 30min commitment 3 days a week, I barely changed my eating habits (I still eat fast food/get stoned and gorge on 30 McNuggets) and I still dropped a pants size (closing in on two). Admittedly I wasn't obese, but I was basically a skinny fat dude with a pot belly and now I actually have some body definition besides a gut. if I put 100% of my effort behind this poo poo I would probably be one of those 100kg of lean muscle guys ready to king hit dudes in The Cross by now. But I don't really like exerting myself and getting sweaty so I just do what I can (with a weekly PT session to really push me.)

And you know what? I feel better about myself than loving ever. For literally the first time in my 30 years of existing, I can look at myself naked in the mirror and actually feel GOOD about myself. After being picked on for my entire schooling life for being a skinny, pasty four-eyes at schools in The Shire (where if you aren't tanned and surfie you're basically scum), to the point where I tried to kill myself at the age of 12, 13 and 18 (and for unrelated but similar reasons at 25 and 28) that is a massive deal. I still struggle with self confidence because its hard to undo being told you cant/wont achieve anything for most of your childhood by classmates and father, but its starting to come around (with a good psychologist).

Can't afford a gym membership? walk around the loving block. walk up and down your apartment buildings stairs. JUST EAT LESS. no one needs a footlong sandwich, or chips with their hamburger/steak/schnitty. You'll save money by ordering smaller meals too. Self Esteem? 24hr gym. go at 2AM.

Just because you won't progress as quickly as someone who has *good genetics* doesn't mean it's futile. A buddy of mine is Korean, and I can put on muscle twice as quick as him with a fraction of the effort. He still gets to the gym every loving day and works for the small gains he can make. Being genetically predisposed to something doesn't stop the person IF THEY WANT IT ENOUGH. poo poo, it's not even really that easy for me to lose the relatively small amount of fat I have, probably because I am genetically predisposed to having a beer gut like my dad does, and his dad did. I lost my rear end before I lost anything off my belly.

I dont want/expect anyone to feel sorry for me after this post, but its not some massive lifestyle shift to begin being healthy, and I figured I might be a somewhat relatable situation to others in here. Blaming Genetics is just another reason to not try and its a lovely one. If thats your attitude I hope you dont procreate, lest your children be stricken with the same insurmountable struggle of not having a second helping.

Serrath posted:

Its probably just that processed sugar is in loving ~everything,~ even normally considered healthy foods, and it fucks with your brain and your digestive system/metabolism. The amount of fatties I see drinking a gigantic Boost Juice under the assumption it is good for them is really scary.

Fat free poo poo is loaded with sugar so it tastes good. you would be better off with full fat whatever than with 98% fat free whatever. People tell you to avoid Coke but Lift/Solo/lemonade has like twice the sugar of Coke (which is still bad but its an interesting example) Its sort of not as bad in Australia thanks to not being reliant on High Fructose Corn Syrup as a sweetener but its still pretty loving bad.

The problem with the RSA is that it's the responsible service of alcohol, not the responsible consumption.

It puts bars on the front foot the second someone is drinking too much or causing a ruckus, they get kicked out. Then they can't get in anywhere else, they get mad, aggressive and eventually ruin someone else's night either directly or indirectly.

If you didn't have bars itching to kick out pissheads they'd likely stay in a venue and drink themselves stupid until they want to leave. By all means kick out trouble makers who are starting fights or being otherwise rampant dickheads but Most people can have 20 beers in a night and all they will do is get a bit shouty. Big deal.

I mean it's basically what happens now except you have bouncers everywhere looking for a reason to exert force on someone. RSA just gives them a reason to do it.

pages late but lmao at 'we should speed govern all cars'

Plenty of cars are already speed governed and its easily defeated with an ECU flash. poo poo, some cars you just disconnect the spedometer signal wire and you're done. 2 minutes under the car with a spanner.

And yes, we SHOULD make everyone do more driver training to make them better drivers. there is zero downside to improving driver ability and awareness. You dont have to teach them how to hit an apex or heel-toe, just teach them how to emergency brake, avoid obstacles correctly and expose them to hazards in a controlled environment. Its much easier to understand just how much extra stopping distance you need from 130 instead of 110 if you put someone in their own car on a wet skid pan and ask them to do it.

but no lets punish everyone because of the mistakes of a few, that seems like a totally good idea that isnt having a massive public backlash right now.

BlitzkriegOfColour posted:

First of all, making people comply with the law isn't punishment, unless you view speeding as an inalienable right or something.

Second of all, just because cars have poor speed governance now, doesn't mean we can't design, say, a speed limiter that needs to be in place in order for the engine to turn on with an encryption feature. Sure people could still get around such a thing, but it will require a gently caress-tonne more knowledge than your average revhead is likely to have.

The punishment is making all vehicles hit a brick wall in terms of speed because some idiots drove beyond their ability and died. What about people who want to drive recreationally? What happens when you want to use a Motorsport facility or driver training? What about getting chased by a vehicle that has speed governance removed?

The specific case referenced would have been avoided entirely if the police weren't even there. Odds on the loving pig in the highway patrol vehicle saw a car full of Browns and decided to hook a U turn and give them a hard time. I saw the exact same thing happen last night in Newtown to a bunch of middle eastern guys on King st. They were doing nothing wrong and travelling in the opposite direction to the cops who ripped a skid at the lights to catch up and loving RBT the guy. There was at least 10 other cars travelling the same direction as the cops too. He was spoiled for choice to meet his quota. Zero reason to do what he did to pull that car over.

It's no wonder the driver shat himself and tried to run. Drunk or not, having a car chase you like that is intimidating as gently caress. My skinny white boy brother had the same thing happen to him on the night of the Cronulla riots - he was dropping a friend home (they had been working on a music project that day and when the evening revenge attacks began decided to delay leaving until it settled) and an unmarked cop car ran up behind him at high speed with its high beams on, my brother panicked and Floored it to escape what he thought was a car full of angry lebs coming to kill him, and only after he breached the speed limit by 30+ did they throw the sirens on and booked him for speeding. Something he had no intention of doing until they arrived. As a result he lost his license for 6 months, and his job by extension.

I just wanted to point out how loving dumb you cunts are to even suggest the idea that improving driver training wouldn't reduce road fatalities (or at least the one dopey oval office who suggested it was going to make everyone into a race car driver and therefore less safe). It took me one track day on a course that doesn't even hit 110kmh on the straight to teach me just how quickly poo poo can go wrong in a controlled environment, let alone the streets where you have dickheads all around you barely paying attention. 120hrs of city driving with mum/dad in the passenger seat boredly cruising Facebook until you arrive is insufficient education for operating a vehicle. most of you are probably old enough to have required less hours or probably none at all.

Most people have the ability to go faster than the posted speed limit but hey guess what, the vast majority of motorists dont and even of the portion that do, an even smaller portion result in injuries or death.

Lockout laws arent designed to keep people safe, they are designed to funnel people into a casino, just like speeding fines and no helmet fines are designed to make people happy that other people they dont like are getting in trouble (and the government is making money off it).
