I mean either way its a comically bad deflection to remind people that there have been multiple months of strikes under him.

The tories keep dealing themselves killing blows over and over but it may be a while before anyone can take advantage of it.

Hasn't stopped the Guardian from leading with it on their home page, though...

Yeah but all the papers at best just parrot things they're told without much context which filter down to their dedicated opinion writers who are largely too busy writing opinions to know anything.

They operate mostly like those twitter or google automated news aggregators rather than places for analysis or inspection.

So we're just going to forget that we had an agreement that both the BMA and the government found acceptable but which Hunt, just one man, vetoed because of ~reasons~, and then had the gall to try and score points on the fact that "only" over ten thousand junior doctors turned out to the latest strike.

I know it's an ideological battle for the Tories, but is there anything specifically Hunt gains from an NHS selloff? Any fingers in corporate medical pies that might make for an obvious ulterior motive? Or is he just banking on staying friends with other Tories who do?

The Tories are pretty much all on the take from someone, that's the point of going into politics for all but the most old-school.

And if he isn't right now once he's shuffled out of government he'll go sit on the board of some healthcare company or some company with shares in one.

If Brexit happens then Scotland is ideally positioned, a sizable majority have said they'd want a second vote to choose which corrupt capitalist union they stay a part of.

I think this might be a Scottish trade secret but "second referendum" is just Scots-Gaelic for "pour across hadrians wall and institute the socialist states of Greater Alba".

Why is this gravity wave business exciting? Science articles in newspapers are always either uninformative or simplify things to the point of nonsense i.e. one of the guardian livestream things being like "lemme explain it to you plebes, imagine you had a tv with one channel then suddenly it started playing other channels!"

I assume its a combo of the fact that it was an incredibly lucky and impressive thing to pick up at all and also that it goes some way to confirming that gravity is a distortion of 4(or more)D space? They suggest the gravitational waves travel at the speed of light which is interesting and probably means something to someone more physicsy than I.

Guys chill its all part of corbyns new politics.
We don't want to be negative here, the plan of asking Cameron "what are you going to do to help Mary feed her cats" every PMQs so he can make a speech about how great he is is going to pay off some day.

E: anyway what is the destruction of the nations infrastructure in comparison to a rehashed old fight nobody under 50 cares about over what missiles our submarines carry?

I have been all for Corbs but loving hell his inability to focus on the current important political issues and actually challenge the madness competently is driving me up the wall. He has missed so many golden opportunities, and I don't care if he doesn't produce a fancy soundbite but any sounds would be good really.

He's got distracted fighting the same battles he did when he was a young man. I was really excited when he was just coming in and had this cool team of modern left economists and policy wonks because the fundamental issue in my mind is the selling off of everything and an unworkable top-down economics strategy.

I figured New Labour would be up for a return to the same old scraps but he would have a chance if he ignored them, instead he appointed Old Man Mao McDonnel (who me ma says is a smart and nice guy so I like him but jesus christ) as his loving treasurer and immediately got embroiled in a months long trident fight. Look everyone gets that nukes are stupid but there is very little public support for completely disarming and trident is an alright deterrent if you absolutely must remain in the big glowing dicks club.

Meanwhile as the labour party beats the poo poo out of itself over an issue that was last popular a decade ago the Tories are constantly tripping over all the dead bodies they're creating and having their trousers fall down, occasionally McDonnel decides now is his moment and calls over the cameras to watch him weakly throw Maoist literature at them.

e: there's still time for a major rethink of their strategy and they can pull it back without it being too humiliating by going "okay that was our year one strategy, now for our year two strategy going forward: pressure the omnishambles tory government, unify and come up with a policy or two.
I think its unlikely though, a more likely hope is enough of this leftwing momentum carries over to Corbyn's replacement.

e2: I'm still hopeful in the longterm though, the most likely outcome in 2020 is despite falls in support the tories retain a similar majority or increase it due to their gerrymandering and with labour's loss of scotland its tory-time for a decade, the part where hope comes in is this means the tories will be the ones overseeing the inevitable societal collapse brought about by their insane policies. Labour or some other leftist party is only going to win following a complete collapse in public confidence in the tories, which they are kindly setting up for us.
The only problem is the huge human misery that will come with that but if you don't like human misery you might want to move countries.

Its weird reading the BBC news site which seems to be operating from a UK in which the doctors aren't all on strike.

e: They do run the leaked Mind report that shows how the tories are loving up mental health in a big way, but noticeably don't include the information about suicides which seems to be officially not happening.

defo a lot quieter in terms of viewership and more cynical? especially looking at how people view Sanders from a US-centric standpoint

To be fair LF era DnD wasn't that progressive hence why LF was a thing. It's kinda sad cause after LF got torn down by the running dogs DnD got better as the hordes of (correct) angsty lefties came back all fired up and there were jokes and fun discussions to be had.

That was all a long time ago though and now DnD is roughly back to its old liberal self and is thus pretty boring. Even the UKMT which has always been super left wing has become a place for liberals to pontificate on common sense or pedantry and lefties to cringe in self loathing.

LF was a shithole but man I miss having a forum where you could have fun while calling a fascist a fascist

That'll be the same Mum that actually opposes his own policies won't it?

I'm seriously baffled by this idea of the Tories that they want a "7 day NHS". Do they think that currently the NHS packs up at 5pm on a Friday and starts working again on Monday morning? Or are they just deliberately using mendacious language to gull the public into supporting their ideological change of the NHS and doctors contracts as a prelude for privatisation?

It's the second one, isn't it.

Tories don't use the NHS how are they supposed to know?

Also on Cameron totes owning corbyn for dressing poorly while not killing patients:

quote:

Cameron knocked Corbyn out of the ring with his glib “Do up your tie” jibe (some people admire Corbyn for his sartorial humility, but there are probably many more who think a would-be prime minister should turn up to work looking smart), and even though Corbyn came back with a spirited come-back, he could not repair the damage done. But, even without that put-down, Cameron had the upper hand because he successfully defused Corbyn’s question about “misleading” hospital weekend mortality figures with a new figure that left Corbyn (and all the rest of us - I didn’t know what he was talking about) stumped.

Ugh gently caress off, Guardian you shitrag. "Cameron comes up with some complete bullshit out of nowhere! Even I didn't know that was true, what a statesman!"

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/feb/28/eu-referendum-stop-personal-attacks-on-anti-eu-tories-duncan-smith-tells-cameron IDS bitching about Cam being mean to him or some poo poo.

Traditionally the tories can't help but self-destruct over Europe so maybe Corbyn not doing anything will fall under that whole political adage of don't interrupt your opponent when he's digging his own grave.
I think theres some hope that basically Labour being in such a diablolical loving state will galvanise the tories into thinking that A: theres nothing standing in the way of the really nasty, nonsensical poo poo they want to do (which is arguably already going on) and B: now is the time to air all their dirty laundry and start stabbing eachother in the back over who is the most right wing nutbag of them all.

They've still got next election sewn up since between the gerrymandering and the SNP Labour needs to gain like 80 seats on a platform of disarmament and letting in all the immigrants but that just means it'll be the tories dealing with all the social and economic catastrophes their policies cause which I don't think was part of the plan when they started out, their first term was very much a "do as much damage as we can before we're out" term.

Full communism now (but not if my shopping costs more).

My friend works at waitrose and lol. They treat their employees like poo poo and pay them same as sainsburys sorry.

My other mate has worked at John Lewis for 10 years and still gets paid less than I did at sainsburys. If you think the posh expensive supermarkets are expensive because they pay high wages I have some very bad news about capitalism for you...

Their whole thing seems to be having a "partnership" with employees that means basically nothing apart from not letting them in a union in return for a bonus that boosts their pay to the same levels as all supermarket staff.
