Americans still seem to have a generally decency about them. Like they're thick as poo poo and their police are basically some kind of tyrannical army but they probably would feel sorry if they saw a disabled person burst into flames in the middle of the street. They might even try and help them. In the UK we're at the point where a crowd would gather to throw petrol on them while shouting scrounger. Then they'd poo poo themselves, eat the poo poo, throw the poo poo at each other and then jump into the fire themselves. Something something immigrants austerity.

I don't think you know Americans

Is there a reason why the Doctors have been striking in such an ineffective manner?
Two 1-day strikes with a lot of caveats doesn't seem to have done anything except made it appear that Hunt got his way

Where do Junior Doctors lie in the Doctor hierarchy and experience range?
Coming from the States, the notion of getting a medical undergrad degree seems odd.

You do 5-6 years undergrad

Then to be a hospital consultant it's 8-9 years as a junior doctor before you complete your training.

And what're the pay grades like?

Jesus, that's incredibly poo poo pay. A lot more respect for the Junior Docs now.

Again, as a transplant from the States, the numbers (income/living expenses) for the average Londoner don't make any sense to me.

Relative to NY, people seem to earn less pre-tax than equivalent jobs. And they have to spend more on stuff like rent and day-to-day expenses.
Like I don't get how people survive.

quote:

Gap-year students are being recruited by the Home Office to make potentially life or death decisions on asylum claims, the Observer has learned. The students receive only five weeks’ training before they begin interviewing asylum seekers and making decisions about whether they can stay in the UK or should be sent back to their home countries.

The Home Office has confirmed that the practice of recruiting gap-year students on temporary contracts during busy periods to help process asylum claims is a longstanding one. A spokesman said that job adverts for these temporary contracts were placed on student and university websites. He added that such temporary jobs are targeted at students who might not want a long-term career at the Home Office.

Sat for a seminar by the head of Tesco data analytics some time back. They do some fancy poo poo with analytics when it comes to both their online store as well as logistics for their b&m. Found it interesting that the guy mentioned viewing Amazon as their biggest threat these days especially given the firm's supply chain enabling them to do stuff like same day delivery better.

Almost there. It was actually B&M store purchases tagged by loyalty card and they sent the family discount coupons.

Interesting thing about Tesco is they're valued as a real estate firm with their grocery business worth nothing (negative). A bit like Yahoo and Alibaba.
