You do, it's just that that one in particular has a shortcut that lets you skip all of it in like 30 seconds. Exploring the caves is cool though, I did it on my first character

In Training

2-2 is the only level I can really think of that lets you do that in all of souls. I mean there's ways to run to bosses if you know enemy patterns and level layouts in other games, but 2-2 just has a harmless way to bypass the entire level. I wonder why they did that.

I guess he Izalith shortcut is like that too but it's a covenant reward so you have to work for it

I agree that DS2 is more of a sequel to Demon's (from a non-lore perspective) than to DS1, especially since the DS2 DLC uses cut content and unused level concepts and designs from Demon's

oh i think i have a magic weapon or two, but i think their stat gains come from magic stats and i have poo poo in those stats right now :(

i need to upgrade that crushing axe but i dont know where to get that ore yet cuz im trying very hard not to spoil this game for myself, but it has B for stat growth from str and everything else is like... D

progress wise i went through a lot of 5-1 despite whiffing my attacks over the heads of the ugly little retards in that zone but i got to a troll or some poo poo that caved my skull in with 1 hit

the firebugs just take 30 years to kill regardless of what you use. but magic helps a little if you need to grind them for some reason

extremebuff

if you want more heavy ores, try your tunneling friends in 2-2. black world tendency also seriously increases ore drop rates

I have a ton of ore but what I need is a pure clearstone. I'm doing weapon upgrades blind, so I hope that Quality is a good weapon path!

theres a few guaranteed pure stone drops throughout the world and for completing quests but if you dont want to hate demon souls never try grinding for one lol

the high end upgrade materials are pretty rare in demons, but you probably wont really need a max level weapon to beat the game. so dont sweat it if you never find one!

Yeah, so far weapon selection seems way more important. I actually started it a few times, but starting as the Hunter has been the most fun, and I lucked out and found a Winged Spear on 1-1 that I've just upgraded through the game.

Haven't gotten there. I've done 1-1, 2-1, most of 2-2, and part of 3-1.

i might play this again soon. i've heard magic is OP, but really fun, so i would do a sorc. run. it would be a good way to do all of the world tendency events.

is there significant NG+ change?

no but there are some weapons/spells you can only get on NG+ because of how the soul trading works.

Ive always wanted to make the northern regalia as a fun gimmick build, which is strictly NG+

also if you look up loot tables and find specific worlds to manipulate for tendency you can do crap like this

I think the broken archestone level concept being used to the dlc wasn't so much of a throwback as it was Miyazaki being asked for help at the last minute and having that laying around. I think it's really interesting (and hasn't been mentioned here much) that in pre release interviews Miyazaki said when he came over to DS3 from bloodborne the prototype was in "very bad shape" and he threw almost everything out and had them start over. I really want to see what the bloodborne team is working on now since they're apparently not doing the 3 dlc

I just went back and beat 1-2 and explored some of 3-1 again and freed sage freke but there's some other guy I can't save yet

So I've beaten 1-2, 2-1, 3-1 so far

that's interesting, but wasn't that also the case with DS2? pretty crazy to think that ds2 and 3 seemed to have had one year dev cycles since they both got scrapped and rebuilt halfway through development

that from software game legacy trailer implied that their next game would have VR support. and there's been a lot of talk about another Armored Core game or some game with scifi or mecha (i.e. not medieval motifs). so in regards to what the BB team is doing next, my cards are on some sort of mecha action game, possibly in first-person for use with PS VR, possibly using the Armored Core IP

Ds3 is a b team game. I knew they had a great game in them from the ds2 dlc but it doesnt compare well to ds1 or bborne in my opinion. But it is great. I think their games will keep getting better and better

Yeah, I'm really enjoying DS3, but Demons, DS1 and Bloodborne all had a feeling that I had just played something really special. DS2 and 3 don't quite have that (DS3 is closer) but they're still great games. I think part of it is sequel syndrome, knowing that certain things are going to happen or appear based on the lore you already know, riffs on things you've already seen, etc...

Regardless of what the setting is for their next game, the fact that it won't be tied down by a preexisting story or whatever is exciting.

:yeah:

DS3 does have some cool moments that have made me slightly walk back on my "Dark Souls should've never had sequels in the same universe" stance, but it just doesn't sparkle like the games in totally new settings do.

bloodborne was a completely natural and sensible evolution of the dark souls formula, it succeeded ds1 in a way ds2 and ds3 never could. my hope is that from keeps making soulslikes with different motifs and cultural influences while playing with the core mechanics and balance to make something both familiar and new.

wish list:
eqypt souls
mecha souls (i.e. a non-armored core mecha game with a new ip)
urban souls
