Pretty interesting article about the future of Open Source. It's on the long side so I'll just paste in this part that I thought was especially cool:quote:[Bunnie], the engineer behind the Chumby and the original XBox hack, built himself an open source laptop. It’s called the Novena, and after three years this laptop is finally making its way into the hands of its crowdfunding supporters. The Novena is built on Freescale’s i.MX6 chip, a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 running at 1.2 GHz. This CPU does not have any microcode, and the entire datasheet and programming manual is available from Freescale without an NDA. There are very few powerful processors out there that do not require an NDA, making [Bunnie]’s choice of chips obvious. Link: https://hackaday.com/2016/01/13/stallmans-one-mistake/

As a Millennial I posted:stallman's biggest mistake was giving it all away for free. fortunately he's corrected this mistake https://diafygi.github.io/gnu-pricing/website/ stallman's intention was never to give it away for free, he's got a lot of writing about how he assumes people would pay for it despite being effectively free to not pay for it because it's The Right Thing to Do or something.

thanks [Squeezy Farm] for this article about [Stallman] and [Bunnie] also wtf is this pos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chumby ayy lmao 'see also' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JooJoo quote:Initially in 2008, $200 was mentioned as the target price-point. In the first half of 2009, $300 was mentioned as more likely. By the end of July 2009, news stories said the actual price when it would ship in November 2009 would be about $400, putting it in potential competition with netbooks and low-end laptops.
