https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjKI_U9ENwU this album is really groovy, but also a little heavy at parts. I really like it. It's like prog stoner power metal or something? I'm not one of those metalheads who likes to classify everything. I don't know if this even counts as metal, anyway. It's just really dope. Also all of the lyrics are about weird arcane science fantasy stuff, which is something I dig personally. But mostly it's just got a really nice groove factor but also rockin high tempo parts.

its an incredibly cool concept album with a lotta different sounds someone i know got turned on to when they were playing it for a span at the Barnes and Noble they worked at back in the day. i love lady folk vocalists so much

unassuming tho it is that is the anthem of my youth. its hot lazy days blasted on mid grade buds watching bean pole punks tear it up on a makeshift half pipe in my buddies barn. watching that same little barn become a great backwoods underground punk show venue. its fitting in after years of being too big to bully but too awkward to be cool. its laughs and love, the fires of youth and the missteps that go with it. i was born an only child but i found my brothers and sisters anyway, and they all wear studded jackets and poo poo kicking boots

been listening to Metallica's Load a lot at work recently. Sometimes I listen to the album once or twice a day. The first time I heard it, I wasn't digging it, but now it's super fuckin bangin' and groovy. The whole thing has a lot of groove factor, but is also sufficiently angry and heavy, at least when blasted at deafening volumes in my car. Mama is super chill and melodic and sad and good, though. Total change of pace. They recorded this album, which is dominated by the over-an-hour-long song "Dopesmoker," after blowing their advance on weed and Orange amps. The record company released them from their contract after they handed them Dopesmoker because they couldn't do anything with it. Was released way after the band broke up. Matt Pike, the guitarist, later founded High On Fire. Bongripper - Satan Worshipping Doom (full album) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsDz5qphC3c Incredible 4-song LP. They dance around a lot of other genres but stick with the doom metal formula. Weedeater - Wizard Fight (live) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7IHcmn84Uo Weedeater is one of those bands that embodies a lot of the stereotypes for stoner metal. The vocalist is missing toes from a shotgun accident and looks like a homeless hillbilly. Southern metal at it's finest. Boris - Heavy Rocks (full album) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCFU1Dpfmnk It's Boris. They own. They can pretty much do whatever the gently caress they want to do, from hard rock to drone doom. In the Name of Suffering is a better album but Dopesick was my first and favorite. Mike IX Williams still claims they are just a punk band and actively hates on the "sludge" label. They don't take themselves seriously (an invaluable trait for the already ridiculous genre) and put out amazing music videos. Been a fan of theirs for a while and every success of theirs makes my heart swell. Honestly, these guys are really cool. They are from Singapore, and apparently that makes it hard to find new drummers when your current one flakes out. Metal isn't very big in Singapore. Everything I love about thrash, being that they are a lot of fun, write some loving intense riffs, and aren't Metallica. Makes you want to shotgun a beer and jump in a pit.
