Seemed light at my precinct in Charleston but still more people then who voted in our mayor race a couple months ago.

E: now that I think about it, part of the island I'm on is unincorporated Charleston and couldn't vote for mayor so maybe that's why it was lighter then.

Oh, poo poo, this is a primary thread. Given that it was about something on a Saturday which neither I nor the people of South Carolina seem to be aware of, I assumed it was another Democrat debate.

Tons of my hippy friends are lining up at the Formula 1 track outside of Austin to see Bernie speak.

They don't seem to get that the fact that he's even doing this event in Austin is him conceding that South Carolina is a lost cause.

But I'm sure they'll all be posting tonight about how him only losing by 10% is practically a victory.

If he only lost by 10% it would be an unprecedented victory though. Its an expectations game, and the expectations are that black people will band together to stop Maple Grandpa. Only losing by 10% means Sanders has traction with minorities. It would be like Clinton only losing NH by 10%, it would have shown Bernie couldn't even pull off a major win in his own neck of the woods.

According to Nate Silver, Sanders can't afford a loss more than 60-40, but that's just one path to victory. If he loses Mass. or Minn. though!

Wouldn't be surprised if all the media about how SC is in the tank for Hillary depressed her turnout, leading to a smaller margin of victory that will be parroted around by the Bernie campaign :ohdear:

His campaign supporters were concerned about this in NH and they told each other that the media was making up his massive lead to depress his turnout :laffo:

I think it's more that Sanders' rhetoric depresses African-American turnout, and less Hillary's lead in the African-American vote is too large.

Ironic, innit, that the way to drive down black turnout is to promise additional entitlements.

Yeah, nobody wins every state in a contested primary, and if HRC only won SC by 10, the news stories leading up to Super Tuesday would all have headlines like "Campaign in Disarray" and "Electable??"

Could be a negative effect. But a lot of early voting took place where Clinton will have a huge lead, and there is high turnout in low population heavy Clinton areas.

It's almost as if outside of bernouts Sanders is an out-of-touch black hole of charisma. Like don't get me wrong, Hillary should've seen the anti-establishment mood sooner and moved to shut him down but he's not exactly inspiring people the way his national socialist counterpart is.

Looking really good for Clinton except 1 county.

Related but not source: http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-02-27/south-carolina-democratic-primary-sets-table-for-super-tuesday

quote:

South Carolina election officials are reporting generally light turnout for Saturday's Democratic presidential primary, which should favor Hillary Clinton in her pursuit of a dominating win over Bernie Sanders in the fourth round of nominating contests.
...
There may be a few areas where voters are showing up in larger numbers, but anecdotal reports indicated low turnout throughout the state by midday, said Chris Whitmire, a spokesman for the South Carolina State Election Commission in Columbia.
...
Shes got the advantage of the folks who probably will vote, said Richard Harpootlian, a Sanders supporter and former South Carolina Democratic Party chairman. It depends on whether Bernie Sanders can generate new participation by younger voters.
