The rumour about James Wan comes from Devin Faraci, and I don't remember him being right about anything DCEU related so far, El Mayimbe has better track record in that front.

And speaking of El Mayimbe, his sources tell him that Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns have full creative control over the Batman solo movie

Oh and he's also saying that George Miller could be directing Green Lantern Corps

I dunno, Faraci broke a lot of BvS stuff that was 'debunked', including the use of Doomsday that multiple people swore wasn't true. The only thing so far that has a question mark is the Suicide Squad reshoots, and the only thing thats been questioned there is the reason for it - though I do happen to think that he's wrong on that front.

Doomsday was broken first by El Mayimbe though.

“Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made," production designer Andrew Menzies told Entertainment Weekly. "You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” Israelite continued. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

EW describes the suits as "translucent armor that crystallizes around their bodies". Longtime Power Rangers fans may be reminded of the armored costumes featured in 1995's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie.

Ezra is also looking pretty good for the part

It's the entire basis of the conflict between Jason Todd and Batman. Batfleck would just murder the gently caress out of the Joker, and rightly so.

You're wrong. Jason's conflict with Bruce is not that he doesn't let people go, is that Bruce didn't broke that rule for him. Under the Red Hood is essentially Jason throwing a tantrum, because he believes Bruce didn't care about him. If Jason's goal truly were killing the Joker for his crimes he would've done it as soon he got him at his mercy instead of dragging the whole thing just to stage a scenario where Bruce would be forced to show if he truly cares about Jason or not.

That is the irony about Jason, he believes Bruce doesn't care about him when in fact, Jason has been a constant presence in Bruce's mind since his death. Going so far to Bruce actually going out for Joker's blood in the original Death of the Family story.

Assuming Jason shows up in the DCEU, I can see the core conflict being not that Bruce kills but that he stopped after meeting Superman. In this case Jason would be sort of an inversion to the current complaints about Bruce's lethality.

A Booster Gold movie is definitely in the works with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Supergirl and Flash producer) attached to the project (as producer I guess?)

quote:

If Warner Bros. TV executives asked you to be the Kevin Feige — who is the creative mastermind of Marvel — of the DC Cinematic Universe, what would you say?

It's never even really come up. Peter [Roth, president of Warner Bros. TV] knows how much I love the characters, and I like being part of this universe in any way that they'll all allow and are interested in me being a part. That's the truth. I'm attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he's writing the script now. I'd probably direct that, or I would want to. But I don't see my cup as limited. I actually think some of the stuff we get to do on the TV side is richer, deeper and more like the true comic books in the sense that you're always able to explore a new thing the next week and the stories grow wider and wider.

Umberto Gonzales has a new scoop regarding Justice League

quote:

Yesterday, my boy Devin at Birth.Movies.Death dropped the hot scoop that Steppenwolf is going to be the bad guy in the upcoming Justice League: Part One. While that indeed is true, Steppenwolf won’t factor into the story until the second half of the movie. More on that in just a bit.

Devin also had thew following to say about Darkseid.

"Darkseid is a presence in the movie, and fully appears at the end of the film, but don’t expect him to do much."

That is true as well but according to my sources, we see Darkseid in the beginning of the film in a flashback sequence. WARNING! The following might be considered spoilerish. Also the script is being rewritten daily on set and the following is subject to change or can even be deleted.

Around 30,000 years ago, the Amazonians, the Atlanteans, and Man successfully fought off Darkseid here on Earth. He left three motherboxes behind and that folks is what Steppenwolf is after in Justice League: Part One. That is pretty much your plot. You can see Steppenwolf and the three motherboxes in the deleted “Communion” scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Harley Quinn Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. With Margot Robbie (Exclusive)

In an interesting twist, the project is not a Quinn solo movie. Rather, it would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains, with names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey surfacing.

Months ahead of the opening of Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. is already contemplating a spinoff for the DC Entertainment anti-heroine, Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie, who stars as the villainess in Suicide Squad, is attached to reprise the character and would also produce the untitled spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

But in an interesting twist, the project is not a Quinn solo movie. Rather, it would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.

Details are being closely guarded but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced, although in what capacity, it’s not clear. Warner Bros. isn’t commenting.

There is also a scribe penning the script but those details, too, are being kept secret, although it is known that the writer is female.

DC has a very strong stable of heroines and villainesses and has been focusing on those characters with the rise of its female readership and fanbase. It recently introduced DC SuperHero Girls, a line of comics and products targeting the young female demographic. The characters getting the spotlight include Quinn, Batgirl, Batman villainess Poison Ivy, Katana (Quinn’s fellow member of the Suicide Squad) and Bumblebee, who can fly and shrink.

Sources say that Robbie was the impetus for the project, adding that when she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible on the character. In the process, she fell for DC’s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up.

Charles Roven's role as producer for the DCEU is "evolving" says The Hollywood Reporter

quote:

Charles Roven, the veteran producer who has worked on every DC Comics movie at Warner Bros. since 2005’s Batman Begins, is no longer producing certain DC movies, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Talks are underway to have Roven — who was a producer on Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as the recently completed Suicide Squad, next year's Wonder Woman and Justice League — segue to a different role going forward, likely that of an executive producer who is not involved in day-to-day production. However, he potentially could continue to be a producer on some sequels to the movies he's currently producing.

The extent of Roven's involvement, and which titles he would work on, is "evolving," according to multiple sources, who also stress that no final decisions have been made.

"Roven is a key member of not only the DC slate but of the Warner Bros. family," says a studio spokesman.

Roven, an experienced producer whose career dates back to the 1980s, has a producer credit on the three Batman movies directed by Christopher Nolan and 2013’s Man of Steel. He also is a producer on Suicide Squad, which Warners hopes will re-energize its DC movies when it opens in August; Wonder Woman, which is set to be released in June 2017; and Justice League, scheduled for November 2017.

Roven has established himself as a savvy player who knows how to manage the armies it takes to make modern, big-budget, visual effects-heavy tentpoles. But he was part of the unofficial brain trust with Snyder on the DC movies, an approach Warners seems to be rethinking in the wake of BvS's less than stellar performance.

One reason for the shift in thinking is that Warner Bros. wants to ramp up the number of DC productions, and sources say it would be physically impossible for one man to handle pre-, post- and production on multiple movies in locations ranging from Australia to Los Angeles to Louisiana to London.

Roven was slated to be a producer on The Flash and Aquaman, two DC films that have yet to go into production and could end up shooting on opposite ends of the planet. Sources tell THR he will no longer serve in that capacity on those films.

Roven remains on set for Justice League: Part 1, currently shooting in London, although Warners now has sent Berg to also oversee the day-to-day production of that movie.

There's also rumors from a random site that WB is so confident in Suicide Squad that is considering multiple spinoffs with its characters like the Joker and Captain Boomerang.

Arrow's Willa Holland hits out at Suicide Squad and Justice League plans saying DC could learn from Marvel

Arrow star Willa Holland has hit out at DC Comics' decision to keep their film and TV universes separate, saying the superhero empire could learn a lot from fierce rivals Marvel .

Holland, who plays DC heroine Speedy/Thea Queen in the American TV series, spoke of her frustration about the situation, which has seen characters dropped from the show because they are getting their own films.

She said at MCM London Comic Con : "Marvel does it in their own weird way - the mash between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the movies and stuff.

"So it's a little upsetting because you know it is possible and it can be done and how good it would be if it was done."

The rival comic franchise intertwines TV's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D with Marvel movies like The Avengers.

But while DC have just brought Batman and Superman to the big screen, they don't mix with the wealth of heroes on television.

Before, this didn't matter much as no hero doubled up, but soon Ezra Miller will take on the big screen role of The Flash - a role Grant Gustin has held for two series on the CW television series.

Holland and her co-star, Katrina Law, who was more reserved in her comments, said they both felt Arrow's Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin would "kill it" playing their characters in a movie.

"Basically you're giving the world two different Flashes all of a sudden," Holland added.

I like Willa but this is really, really stupid on her part.

Dark_Tzitzimine

I watched TMNT2 last night. Is a decent movie but I had more fun with the previous one.

This movie is just as the trailers showed up, pretty much just a two hour episode of the old 1987 cartoon with everything that entails. Most of the characters are pretty flat (Krang in particular is just a generic Doomsday Villian) and aside of the Turtles, all the returning characters barely have a role or a characterization to speak of.

The new characters are also unevenly handled. Bebop and Rocksteady are the ones who recieve the most focus and while they don't have a character arc to speak of (they just love to stir poo poo up) they are pretty drat entertaining and they steal the show of every scene they're in. Stockman is also a generic crazy scientist guy but his actor was clearly having too much fun chewing the scene at every opportunity.

Now Casey Jones is weird case. The character has little to do with his comic book counterpart and by the most part I feel like I was just seeing Amell playing himself in the movie (not that he had a lot of material to work with, mind you) and the change to the character's backstory (he is a rookie police officer) could bring interesting ways to develop the character but the plot doesn't do anything with it.

The effects are pleasing to the eye but when the scene is focused just in the CG characters, is hard to feel like watching a videogame cutscene rather than a Live-action movie. The action is also kind of dull compared with the previous movie, for example, the fight against Krang is very inferior to the fight against Shredder.

People at my showing was laughing non stop at the humor of the movie but is something I don't think will stand multiple viewings.

I enjoy the old cartoons as much as the next guy, but I think they tried too hard into emulate that tone to make this movie memorable.

John Boyega is cast as the lead in Pacific Rim 2

quote:

Legendary Pictures has set Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, which will begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film. Universal will release the film worldwide, everywhere but China.

Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter is executive producer. The picture is a beach head project for Legendary, under the leadership of Parent, who became Tull’s vice chairman of Worldwide Production after Jashni exited to start his own venture. The principals have confirmed to Deadline they found their man in Boyega.

“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Parent.

Said del Toro: “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”

Official Synopsis

Warner Brothers posted:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

(Bolding mine)

Joblo posted:

- It is no longer referred to as a two part film. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is simply that: Justice League, a complete, standalone film.

- Expect a lighter tone than BVS, which was focused on being more akin to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, a much darker tale to begin with. Justice League is expected to be more of a fun, ensemble superhero piece that focuses on the building of the team and uniting to fight a common threat.

- Justice League will have a heavy Jack Kirby influence, with the story revolving around the puruit of the three motherboxes, one from Earth, one from Atlantis, and one from The Amazonians.

- The film takes places months after BVS, with Bruce heavily affected by Superman’s death and seeking to honor his sacrifice in building the Justice League. Rather than being a Batman on the edge, he is now a Batman full of hope, hinged entirely on created a team that can unite and fight common threats, while redeeming mankind, having learned his lessons in BVS.

- A large part of the film focuses on Bruce assembling the team, with Superman’s return reserved for later in the film. About his comeback, Snyder was mum, although when I asked how his hair would be, Snyder joking said it might be “a little longer” which is significant if you remember the “Death of Superman” comics.

- Amy Adams is back as Lois Lane.

- In terms of villains, Steppenwolf is one of the key villains, although not necessarily the only one. The influence and presence of Darkseid is very much alive, with the parademons we saw in BVS once again appearing here. The role of Steppenwolf is expected to be cast soon. In addition, although not confirmed, it’s implied that Lex will have something to do with this story as well. How big or how little is unknown.

- Ben Affleck confirmed that he is, in fact, directing a solo Batman film, but won’t begin production until the script is right, which he is currently working to get to that point.

- The purpose of Affleck serving as Executive Producer on Justice League is primarily to have some oversight on the Batman character as he will be directing the solo outing. This gives Affleck the ability to help steer the character and make sure everything stays in line with his next onscreen adventure.

- Batman’s suit will see some improvements from BVS, including armor plates underneath the costume to protect his vitals, seeing as he is the most vulnerable of the cast in terms of superpowers. In addition, we’ll see a new and improved version of his armored suit from BVS used at the end of Justice League.

- Bruce Wayne will build a Waynetech carrier called The Flying Fox for the Justice League to utilize. In addition, Batman will have a new vehicle called The Nightcrawler, which was designed by his father, Thomas Wayne, and plays a large role in an underground tunnel battle.

- Willem Dafoe’s role has been revealed as Vulko, a mentor character to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. He's described as being from another generation thaa Aquaman with his costume being more courtly and elaborate, including silvery, washed out colors and a lot of gil elements around the neck, with the idea being that Atlantean culture was once above water and that their skin has adapted to breathing underwater.

- Amber Heard's character, Mera, is a warrior and a sorceress, and is described as the costume designer's favorite, with her costume having a type of chaimail blended with the skin. There's a very elaborate fitting process with these Atlantian characters in order to make the costumes comfortable and work with the choreography of the fights, as they fit really close to their bodies, like scales.

- JK Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon has the classic Jim Gordon look. Simmons is wearing a hairpiece, moustache, and glasses.

- Ezra Miller’s Flash will feature heavily in the film and will provide much of the comic relief to the proceedings. His initial costume will be pieced together from spacesuit material, held together by electrified wire. He will rock a streamlined costume by the end of the film, designed by Waynetech.

- Ray Fisher’s Cyborg costume will be all CGI, while the rest of the team’s costumes will be all practical.

- Junkie XL will be back to score the film, although it’s unclear if collaborator Hans Zimmer will be involved. However, Zimmer’s themes will still be used regardless if he returns or not.

- As far as the Man of Steel himself is concerned, when (and if) we do see him, Zack Snyder stated that his hair would be "...perfect - a little longer I guess - that’s what the myths are," which could relate to the Return of Superman storyline.
