Trump in his natural mode of operation went 10 times further than necessary. His extremely high exposure is his own worst enemy, hard to reinvent yourself to people who hate you. The GOP needs latinos and african americans to win, Trump isn't winning those demos in 1000 years. I enjoy that you've adopted the concept that a ham sandwich painted blue could garner the votes of the loyal/captive Democratic base. Its the Independents that a candidate actually needs to appeal to in order to win.
