Jewel Repetition posted:It's uh, very much in the bag and has been. That's why I don't follow it. In the bag is the wrong choice of words - I guess there is still significant opportunity to influence the policy position of the democratic party by strong turnouts for Sanders. Hillary has already had to move a lot, and it's pretty clear if a stronger candidate than sanders (perhaps Elizabeth Warren) had run things may look very different. So a Democratic party primary vote still has value, unless you don't really agree with Sanders, in which case tactically voting to try and generate a brokered convention in the republican party makes sense I guess.

It does have value no matter what his chances are.

I'm just going to pre-empt discussion here. Anyone who points to the democratic primary polls is obtuse as gently caress and hasn't learned their lesson yet. The polls have underestimated both Hillary and Bernie at times, shut the gently caress up about them as definitive proof of the outcome. Also, my opinion,: People who say Bernie doesn't stand a chance don't know jack poo poo about why he's had his current success. Were the same people saying he wouldn't be a challenger to Hillary back in october

In Illinois, the names go in the order the candidates arrive at the Election Board's office. There's usually a line at 5am on the first day to register.

Venom Snake posted:nah polls are still good to look at and ignoring them all because MI happened is dumb Also MI was probably wrong because of the likely voter screen. A standard question is "did you vote in the last competitive primary race?" however the last competitive primary race was the 2008 one where MI (and FL) awarded no delegates so tons of likely voters probably were removed from the polls. The remaining races (FL excepted) do not have that issue so the polling is less likely to be massively off. Still could be off by as much as 5 points though as primaries are Weird.

Trump wins in FL and NC by double digits. Kasich wins in Ohio by around 3-4% IL and MO will be closer, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ted Cruz eek out at least 1 win the other going to Trump. Both of those states seem midwesterny and folks enough (the non-Chicago parts) that Cruz will do well there. Worst case scenario for Trump is he still extends his lead over Cruz, but might be denied getting to 1,237.

The thing about today that's different than the last few contests is that the only closed primary today is Florida. The rest are open or "semi-closed" and allow for unaffiliated voters to vote in whichever primary they choose. There are no caucauses today on the Republican side. This is the format that has strongly favored Donald Trump. We have almost no polling out of Missouri and the Trump surge has been as big as the Cruz surge in Illinois over the last few days in all surveys except for the YouGov one [e: I kind of lied here. The Trump number in YouGov is his best number in Illinois too, it just shows that support might be consolidating around the two rather than anyone else]. The likelihood is that Trump does very very well tonight. An Ohio win is unlikely, but not outside of the realm of possibility.
