huh, so apparently a possum died in my parent's backyard on the patio, so my dad and I buried it

fucker was big too, 31 inches long and male

apparently there's also a mother possum with babies somewhere that my mom saw out back a couple days ago

no idea what the possum died of, my parents never set poison or anything like that, they just leave the animals alone

Sounds about right.

Trump might be slightly more dangerous, we've at least got a way to deal with ISIL.

Trump though, "Can't Stump The Trump" remains as terrifyingly true as ever, as evidenced by Lindsey Graham's change of tune on Ted Cruz above.

Unfortunately, yes it is. Eventually there will be a plane called the F-35 that will fly and probably not explode when it does so.

These F35s will either sit in a hanger, be sold to other countries, or be used as absurdly expensive bomb trucks for our little skirmishes in the Middle East; the F-35 will be worse at this role than A-10s and F-15/16/18s currently doing this now.

Our cat (Penelope) was adopted from a local pet store that kept a few cats for the local Humane Society so the animals could be kept somewhere (relatively) quieter and be seen by more potential adopters. Before we got her the store manager let us take her into a back office and introduce her to the puppy (Ruby) we had adopted about two months prior. When Penelope very calmly allowed Ruby to use her ears and face as a chew toy without even so much as blinking we knew she'd be a good fit.

They still get along great. They chase each other through the house, and the cat will play keep-away with her paws. Unfortunately the puppy still likes to dominate anyone and everyone's laps and tends to sometimes chase Penelope away when the cat just wants some quiet nap time in my wife or I's lap. Of course, I say lap, but I mean "upper chest and face". drat cat has no concept of personal boundaries. And she licks almost as much as the puppy does.

26-year-old Virginia man who was taken into custody in Iraq after he purportedly deserted the Islamic State told a Kurdish TV station Thursday that he decided to escape after he grew dissatisfied during intensive religious training in Mosul.

Mohamad Khweis told Kurdistan 24 that his life under the Islamic State in Mosul was a “very strict” regimen of prayer, eating and eight hours of daily instruction in religion and sharia law. He said he soon came to realize that “I didn’t really support their ideology.”

Khweis said he stayed only about a month, then reached out to someone who could help him make his way toward Turkey. He said he planned eventually to return to the United States.

“It was pretty hard to live in Mosul,” he said. “It’s not like the Western countries, you know, it’s very strict. There’s no smoking. I found it hard for everyone there.”

quote:

In 1948, Thurmond stated:
"all the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, into our schools, our churches and our places of recreation and amusement."

In opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957, he conducted the longest filibuster ever by a lone senator, at 24 hours and 18 minutes in length, nonstop. In the 1960s, he opposed the civil rights legislation of 1964 and 1965 to end segregation and enforce the constitutional rights of African-American citizens, including suffrage.

--
Six months after Thurmond died in 2003, his mixed-race, grown daughter Essie Mae Washington-Williams revealed that he was her father. Her mother Carrie Butler had been 16 years old and working as his family's maid when she became involved with Thurmond, who was 22. Although Thurmond never publicly acknowledged Essie Mae Washington, he paid for her education at a historically black college and passed other money to her for some time. She said that she kept silent out of respect for her father and denied that the two had agreed that she would not reveal her connection to Thurmond. His children by his marriage eventually acknowledged her. Her name has since been added as one of his children to his memorial at the state capital.
Strom Thurmond was a staunch supporter of segregation. And yet he had a mixed-race daughter with his family's black maid.

Imagine an :ironicat: that expands to the size of the known universe, and you'll be maybe a third of the way to the proper size of one that should appear every time Strom Thurmond's name is mentioned.
