Consider carefully if you want to call that era of X-men great when two of the three main books were written by Chuck Austen and Modern Chris Claremont.

For me that era ended when Morrison finished his run on New X Men. It still blows my mind how it went from such high marks in Morrison's run to Austen's run and how low it kept going. I also paid no attention to anything other than New X Men during that time.

They really haven't given up on Captain America. I mean, Spencer's writing both books and the arc for Sam Wilson is how everyone wants him to give back the shield, to the point where USAgent tracked him down and is gonna beat the poo poo out of him for it. The whole point of the Sam Wilson book is that he's really actually Captain America because they keep on threatening to take the title away from him.

So it's the 24/7 rules of the old Hardcore Title? But the title is the shield.

I liked WWH as an event, because you need a reminder occasionally between Bruce Banner's angsting and the Hulk being basically a good guy that the Hulk loving sucks and is a terror and ruins poo poo forever and cannot be loving stopped. So an event, written by Greg Pak and drawn by JRJR (the perfect artist for this event) that consists of the Hulk wrecking the loving poo poo out of Manhattan and just effortlessly ruining the poo poo out of anyone who tries to stop him ruled. Concluding with, essentially, a Superman/Hulk fight was the perfect way to end it.

The problem comes from the tie-ins mostly consisting of "Here, I, some total loving no-name B-tier chump you've never heard of, will try to stop the Hulk! Oh, I don't? I get wrecked? Huh." over and over and over. There was that good tie-in with the X-Men where the Hulk's convinced against taking Xavier hostage after destroying both X-Men teams and basically everyone in the Academy, though.

I liked the idea of WWH and I really enjoyed Planet Hulk as well. Save for the shocking twist ending to WWH as far as the subsequent explosion blah blah. The art I loving HATED I cannot stand JrJr's art when it's supposed to be some huge kinetic pace and looks like square blocky garbage. It would have been cool to see Dedato do the mini since he draws really good huge muscle dudes and drew a very imposing looking Sentry, or brought McNiven back to do it that would have been awesome as well.

Also the only good tie-in was the Ghost Rider one, where you have him hauling rear end to New York arguing with the Spirit of Vengeance that they have more important work to do. Goes and picks a fight with Hulk who just smiles and doesn't take it seriously until Hulk knocks the Rider the gently caress out and the Spirit of Vengeance takes full control. That's the only time Hulk is given pause and the Spirit rides off with Reed blubbering like a baby to Stephen Strange as to why he just left like that, and Stephen replies that "The Ghost Rider avenges only the innocent. Which we, are not."

The Allies, in a last ditch attempt, use a Cosmic Cube to alter reality so that Hydra and the Nazis lose, and that is the Marvel Universe we know. A world that was artificially fabricated by the Allies, including a truly Allies-loyal Cap (possibly because the Allies never learned of his deception?). And thus, when Kobik turned Cap to Hydra, she was actually awakening his true self from the original timeline before the Allies changed everything, and thus allowing Rogers to restore Hydra to its ‘rightful’ position."

So after reading the first issue, it feels like they are giving Steve a kind of Richard Spencer characterization. Everyone else is what you'd expect from Nazi/Hydra villains, but Steve feels like he's trying to put out this bullshit agenda of some kind of peaceful fascism, because you never see him get dirty or violent. Just kind of passive and mopey, that I guess is supposed to be quasi conflicted but the plot is loving terrible that I'd prefer reading Fear Itself again. I think that's what currently bugs me the most is, to me, Steve reminds me of Richard Spencer and I loving hate it. It also seems obvious that really the only way out for him is to die at the end of this. Just straight up die, either through bullshit "remember who you are" kind of crap, more cosmic cube fuckery, or Clint puts an arrow between the eyes. I don't see how you can redeem this character at all, and I don't think I'll be satisfied either if this is how the writing will be.

Also I think this is exactly why DC has Elseworlds. There you have a super crazy evil Superman in Injustice doing all sorts of heinous poo poo, you can twist and bend the characters however you want and tell the stories you want without making GBS threads all over, Superman as his status as a force for good, and hope. I just don't understand it. Oh well. At least Mighty Thor, and Ultimates are still really good.
