I'm sitting outside smoking a cigarette while looking through this thread. My porch backs into a nature preserve. Apparently this kitten's meow has made a momma fox nervous. She just started making a sound similar to this, but a little lower with slightly longer intervals: https://youtu.be/v5GIADISRwM

Several years ago, I had a foster cat and a puppy. My ex and I had left fries on a pan on the counter after dinner was done. My ex had walked in to find the cat on the counter picking up the leftover does one-by-one and dropping them on the floor for the puppy.

Here is one of my red tabbies at my old house. He would speed down the hallway, through the kitchen, into the sunroom. then zoom up his cat tree and leap into the rafters, where he would howl for me to come see how impressive he was and gaze in awe at how much his tail resembled a cheeto when it was all puffed up.

He grew up with both back feet turning out like a ballerina. He would also encircle my car with dead shrews every evening after he grew up. I loved that cat. Why is this person petting a marshmallow peep?

For some reason, my phone is refusing to play Twitter videos. So I found the source video. https://youtu.be/2FspwOKfGPY I love how she slaps the floor. Bearcat babies and info: https://youtu.be/quDYd_7hRbc Big cats playing like our cats: https://youtu.be/JLdaaRF2XaQ The bobcat throws his toys around like my long-haired calico throws my socks. I bet if there was a toilet in the enclosure, he would also cache their toy in it when they were done playing. Bored has a new favorite as of 20:10 on Jun 1, 2018 |

I've thought about getting one of those cat wheels, but I don't think it can support the cat who most needs the exercise. I think he was 23lbs at his last weigh-in. And he would absolutely hit that thing as hard as possible if he decides it's a great way to show me how awesome he is when I get home. By hit, I mean, launch himself into it as soon as I open the door. I'm pretty sure the force he uses when doing so would break it.

I think a gif of this video has shown up in the thread, but here it is with sounds! https://youtu.be/_w-qHUhdjuE I miss playing with baby goats BTW, those are pygmy goats, the naughtiest of goats. But all goats are much cleverer than they are given credit for. My old boss had a rotation in veterinary school that included day to day care of the farm animals that are at the school (or maybe an off-campus barn, I never asked). She said that every morning, the goats were out of their enclosures wandering around. It didn't matter what kinds of latches they used on the doors, the goats would find a way to escape. DicktheCat posted:Holy poo poo. I thought cats were like incapable of seeing animals that much smaller than themselves as anything but prey or toys. What the hell is going on here? One of the semi-feral cats I had in Tennessee caught a mole, brought it up to the patio, and proceeded to play house with it. She acted like the momcat I fostered at one time did towards her kittens when they were mobile. She'd flop down on her side several feet away then trill at the mole. As soon as it tried to make a run for it (they are not very good at running) she'd trot over, pick it up by the scruff of its neck*, move it back to the center of the patio, groom it, then flop down several feet away again and trill at it. I got all the semi-feral kittens spayed and neutered before they were matured, so it's not like her hormones could have been out of whack. She was just a weird cat. I caught her siblings playing volleyball with a shrew-mole late one night. Like, keeping it airborne, smacking it back and forth. *Moles don't seem to have scruffs like cats, but Veruca picked the mole up gently by the skin behind its head.

I will check my lovely computer. Veruca was also the only one of the 5 that the grackles hated. I'm guessing because she is a classic brown tabby while her mom and siblings are broken or ticked tabbies, so it was harder to tell them apart.

There are lots of cute "rats playing musical instruments" photos on the internet. I think they must be the photographers pet Dumbo rats since the blue spotted one shows up in a lot of the pictures. These aren't taxidermy. Just something tasty on tiny props. Sestze posted:reminds me of the story of Pocho the crocodile. It's a nice, short read that shows off that crocs can actually be animals understanding of love and compassion. That article, when it was posted on another thread, made be do internet research on crocodillian intelligence, since I always thought they were dumb. Turns out I was wrong. They are just very difficult to research because they are ambush predators and they are not as active hunting due to low metabolism. They also tend to be nocturnal hunters and live in murky water. But, they have been observed hunting in packs and given specific jobs in the hunting party. http://www.sci-news.com/biology/science-crocodiles-alligators-hunt-groups-02203.html Bored has a new favorite as of 22:42 on Jun 20, 2018 |
