Since we're posting cats now, here's mine, her name is Toffee:

Currently she lives at my mom's house but when my sister moves out she's going to take the cat with her. She was a stray that we took in a year or so ago because she was so skinny and sad looking that my sister refused to leave her. I'm kinda glad we did because she turned out to be like the most affectionate cat I've ever seen.

She's teeny tiny, always has been, both in width and height. We haven't ever been able to figure out why but boy is she cute.

If she was a stray, there's a good chance she had kittens before she was fully grown. Most cats take a year to hit full size, but they can get pregnant from four months on, and if they do their bodies will basically halt their growth so it can dedicate resources to the pregnancy.

Or she could just be a lil cat.

I know possums are like incredibly unlikely due to their body temp being a few degrees under what rbaies need to surive.

Or he could be Aussie or Kiwi, no rabies.

So I'm not sure what I'm really more surprised about, that people were outraged over cockroaches getting squashed or that there exists fake theatre cockroaches.

Honestly it's probably more that it's easier to make fakes than set up real roaches to work with the filming.

There have been studies noting that cats honestly aren't domesticated compared to most animals we consider that way - your typical house cat is much closer to an Africa wildcat than a dog is to a wolf or a cow to an auroch. Those animals, we specifically bred to be docile, obedient, and generally less dangerous. Cats just showed up when humans started farming because fields and granaries attracted lots of pests which the cats saw as easy meals of their own with ready access to shelter, and cats haven't changed much since. Cats go feral and turn into murderous little predators easily and only a few breeds like persians and ragdolls can be considered truly domesticated.

Mmm. Cats are closer to (non-pet) pigeons and rats and roaches, in that they moved into a convenient niche that we created, but not much adapting was actually required.

I can't find the listicle anymore, but today I read about pets that cost their owners a lot of money in vet bills for either something small or something stupid. There were two stories of Labs who faked leg injuries to get out of having to take walks.

The other one that got me was this

My cat had a cone on after an operation. She stopped eating and using the litter box and she became lethargic. One night I laid her on the bed next to me and when I woke up the next morning, she hadn’t moved at all and was purring weakly. Convinced that she was dying, I called the vet, who was out of town, and he got so worried he came to check up on her.

I seriously cannot explain how concerned we all were until we got to the vet and he took off the cone, at which point she magically came back to life. She scratched the vet in the face, ate two pouches of wet food, and drank a boatload of water. She didn’t like the cone, so she pretended she was dying.

Bratte catte

To be fair, 'oh god I can't stand up anymore' is the reaction of any cat when you put things on it.

If you are doing the Get A Puppy For A New Kid thing, to be brutally honest the prime time to do it is when the kid is 8-ish. When it's time for the dog to pass into the great hereafter, they'll be old enough and mature enough to come to terms with it, but also not too old that they'll have moved out/etc and will have spent as much time with the doggy as possible. Source: Me and my sister and my first dog, who I loved very much!

We got our cat when I was 7, which is a good age. It's probably a good thing we didn't get her younger than that, to be honest, since I don't think she would've liked me very much before I was old enough for her to train me on how to act towards her. (Cats, eh.)

Luckily I didn't have to say goodbye until I was 27.

Sugar gliders are cute but keep in mind that they are also entirely undomesticated, wild animals. It's not like owning a rabbit or guinea pig.
