Maybe because no-one really cares? For most people the Wii U might as well not exist.

wouldnt that mean bc would be a plus tho because the hordes of people buying a switch can then also try out the many wii u games they missed out on?

It might be that people are so used to no backwards compatibility for the last three years and that the Switch seems so different from the WiiU hardware wise that there isn't the possibility of worrying. A bit like how people didn't really worry too much about the 3DS not having backwards compatibility with the Wii. They're so different in terms of hardware. The lack of a optical slot.

Aside from VC games, which a lot of us are hoping do transfer in some fashion.

backwards compat isnt an issue of hardware similarity though. also lack of similar physical media isnt really that big a deal in this digital age. also fix my av.

You're right. It's a software thing. And so far nothing suggests that an emulator is capable of running Wii U games at acceptable levels on the Switch.

its not software are you loving high lol

The backwards compatibility part comes from having the same hardware within the console/handheld

this is nothing to do with hardware similarity though

also even if it was the switch is still arm like nintendo handhelds have been for a while

also even if it was a different architecture this wouldnt be the first time theyve changed it and they kept backwards compatibility last time because its irrelevant to how backwards compatibility is achieved

mario 64 was a must play industry changing game. zelda botw is gonna be good but its impact is certainly going to be less revolutionary.

it changed the industry so much that modern mario is closer to crash bandicoot than mario 64

You're not making sense here. The DS had the GBA hardware inside it. The Wii and WiiU had the Gamecube hardware inside it. The 3DS had the DS hardware inside it. The original 60GB PS3 had the PS2 hardware inside it. That allowed for backwards compatibility.

The Switch can't have WiiU hardware inside it because a) it'd be huge to hold in order to have the WiiU specific hardware and b) it doesn't have optical media, so none of the WiiU physical games would work anyway.

If we're talking software backwards compatibility with older systems, then thats basically eshop and Virtual Console. Many are hoping that this transfers.

why would it have wii u hardware in it?
