So let's assume for a moment that the election from here on plays out with Hillary being indicted by the FBI before the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. The polls aren't radically off, there's no October surprise, no major terrorism incident, no dramatic economic collapse. Trump gets no traction outside his base and whites don't turn out in significantly larger numbers than last time. The Democratic base shows up on election day and finally elects a real Social Democrat into Office, Bernard 'Bernie' Sanders. What do the next four years look like? I'm less interested in Bernard's specific policies, which I think we can reliably assume will be some mix of progressivism plus a lot of congressional gridlock and theatrics. I'm more interested in what happens to all the angry restive Shillaries and Trumpstaffel. The establishment faced a huge challenge this year, and was defeated by a Sanders campaign and an FBI investigation, but the Republican party would still be destroyed and have serious popular support for repealing NAFTA and other trade pacts. For the DNC, they would have lost due to a challenger from the Left; where do the washington-consensus factions from both parties go? This is your thread to speculate wildly about just how much more insane the pressure cooker of American politics gets if both Trump and Hillary are shut out of power. Everyone's pissed, the economy is probably gonna fall off a cliff again, and Birdie Sanders is in the White House. What kind of bizare domestic political fallout can you imagine? Put another way, if Trump doesn't win, then what lasting impact might he and Hillary leave on the system, if any? Does the Establishment switch up its playbook, do either of the parties try to tap this new found energy, do new political movements appear on the scene? A few years ago do we look back on this election as a turning point, or just a really weird and brief interruption to our regularly scheduled programming? This thread is to somewhat discuss if we're all mentally prepared to allow Sanders to be president and what the gently caress that actually means for america

I think the most likely policy proposal to be passed is the $1 trillion indastrucuture bill. I can see republicans getting behind it to provide money for their districts. You would also likely see criminal justice reform. You'd likely see extensive investigations into wall street. The big banks would be broken up through Dodd Frank and overall the CJ system would move away from settlements for white call crime. I think there would be a grass roots effort to push for free college and single payer with Sanders using the bully pulpit. TPP would be dead if it wasn't passed during the lameduck session.

Many of trumps populist supporters pivot to Bernie. The majority of the Dem voters fall in line, but the DNC establishment which has been packed with Hillary's Cronies piss away the next 4 years trying to undermine any sort of progress. They basically become the Democratic Tea Party and in some unimportant way they are different from the republican's I guess. Then they are all executed via guillotine.

Not much would get done, since he's not putting any effort into down ticket races. Because of that, he'll have either the same amount or more GOP reps in the House and possibly more GOP senators, which will make all of his policies stall. Political revolution my rear end.

The law of unintended consequences is made bare and on a national scale, as the dark side of his previously pipe dream policies becomes known. The mad race to get a liberal arts degree by young people reaches a fevered pitch as college applications increase tenfold. Only the lucky ones get the free state tuition in one of the limited spots. Trades become even more unfashionable, although thanks to the open borders, illegal central americans are more than happy to become the plumbers and carpenters. Remittances increase tenfold. Everyone has access to healthcare but wait times have increased from days to months, and doctors, no longer fearful of malpractice due to new regulations, lower the quality and thoroughness of their care. Patients have no recourse. Private hospitals close by the hundreds after failing to reach adequate deals with the federal government health care system. Somethin somethin foreign policy. Wait, Bernie has a foreign policy? Who knew. Anyway the vaunted "coalition" of terror fighting middle eastern countries never materializes as it becomes clear that they all have wildly different goals and aims. As the US shrinks from a leadership role in the middle east, chaos continues to reign and each regional power pursues their interests with less caution. And after that there's always more and it's always worse. Feel the bern
