I knew about transforming pretty much immediately but it took a pretty embarrassingly long time before I found out about the tranformation moves.

I don't know if it's what you're talking about but the only times he's killed me is when he does that attack where he crawls towards you and I just get trapped in his hitbox and take damage until I die.

Yeah the defiled and depth 5 chalices were hard as nails and epic as hell. Wished the level design had more variety though.
