Release Date: June 7th, 2016 (NA) June 8th, 2016 (EU) Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC (Origin) Developer: DICE Website: http://www.mirrorsedge.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mirrorsedge Twitter: https://twitter.com/mirrorsedge YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/MirrorsEdgeTheGame Mirror's Edge: Catalyst is a reboot of 2008 cult hit game, Mirror's Edge. In the city of Glass, groups of free-spirits called Runners live off the grid on the city's rooftops and act as couriers/criminals for those willing to pay for their services. You play as Faith, a young woman with a rebellious streak that holds no love for the ruling Conglomerate, and also one of the best Runners in the city. After being released from a stint in prison, she soon finds herself caught in the middle of a conflict between those that rule Glass, and those fighting to depose them. What makes Mirror's Edge so unique is that the majority of the game takes place from Faith's first-person perspective as she traverse's Glass using her parkour skills (the game goes into a third-person view for special combat takedowns). Unlike the first game, Catalyst will be in an open-world setting, giving you more freedom on the path to take to your objective. Combat does return from the first game, but has been completely re-done. The developers claim that the goal of the combat design is to keep Faith mobile and not have it slow down your momentum, which was one of the more frustrating aspects of the first game. Moreover, while Faith will face enemies with firearms, she herself doesn't use them, and will rely on her movement and unarmed abilities to get past them. And while there has been a lot of emphasis on the new combat system, it does look like there will be opportunities to just run past enemies and avoid fighting all together, and hopefully that will remain true for the whole game. Characters: Faith Connors The protagonist. Her family was killed in a riot when she was seven, and she was taken in by Noah to become a Runner. Thrill-seeker who doesn't care for rules. Noah One of the most respected leaders of the Runners, and Faith's guardian after her parents were killed. Thinks of her as a daughter, and worries about her recklessness. Icarus After Faith was arrested, he became the top Runner in Glass. Doesn't like Faith, and seems pretty jealous about her relationship with Noah. Bit of an rear end in a top hat. Gabriel Kruger Head of KrugerSec, and one of the influential leaders of the Conglomerate. Hates Runners and the Resistance fighting the Conglomerate. Stick Figure Mafia posted:Movements are locked behind upgrades Yeah that really sucks, but hopefully basic movements will already be unlocked, or at least be unlocked by the time the game opens up.

AlmightyBob posted:One of the few game soundtracks I own, hope this one is as good. I mean in the sense that the game goes into a third-person view for special takedowns. As far as anyone knows, you're playing as Faith the entire time. I edited the OP to clarify.

Tiggum posted:Well, unless combat is basically unrecognisable compared with the first game, I guess I won't be playing it, because being able to steal guns and just shoot people was the only way I got through a lot of it. And that gameplay trailer made combat look pretty much identical, for all they say they've changed it. I thought guns were pretty much useless is ME 1. The only decent one was the sniper rifle since it was the only one you could aim. Even then, it was much easier to just run past them, with the occasional sliding dick kick or wall kick to stun anyone in your immediate way. Tiggum posted:Why? Why does this game even need combat? It was the biggest factor in ruining the first one, why even have it? Lucha armbars are cool. PunkBoy fucked around with this message at 16:17 on Apr 19, 2016 |

chumbler posted:What. Yeahhhh, definitely the biggest downside for me right now. From what I've seen from the gameplay vids, it's stuff like "Do more damage with you attacks" and "Gain more meter for special moves" kind of thing. There is a page titled "Movement" but I really hope the actual actions aren't unlocks and are just there for listing's sake. At the very least, have it all be unlocked by the time you get through the tutorial levels. On the subject of more disappointing news, the game is delayed again! http://www.mirrorsedge.com/news/mec...05&sf45807251=1 June 7th for North America, and June 8th for Europe.

Orv posted:The drop roll is an unlock, if that tells you anything about how they're handling it. I think it's already unlocked? The person playing it screws up, but I think they were supposed to do the drop roll here in the intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryfvCPV2vEw&t=329s Unless the drop roll is an upgrade of that, in that case yeah that stinks. EDIT: Yeahhh, drop roll looks to be an upgrade. That's lame as hell. You start out with kind of like a scramble to keep yourself moving, it looks like, then I guess you turn it into a roll with the upgrade. MinibarMatchman posted:isn't rolling and poo poo like unlocked almost immediately? the kneejerk of a skill tree is laughable, you'll probably have everything you need in the first hour. I'm definitely hoping that's the case. Oh, I forgot about the Overwatch launch. Yeah, delay makes sense then. PunkBoy fucked around with this message at 17:51 on Apr 21, 2016 |

elf help book posted:Collect 300 SkillOrbs to unlock the ability to play a better game. The only actions I didn't see in the tutorial was the drop-roll (you get the scramble, and it does look like it unlocks early) and the mid movement turning (which I can sort of understand of needing to build to that because that poo poo was confusing at first). Faith was still wall-running, vaulting, and sliding like in the first game. PunkBoy fucked around with this message at 17:59 on Apr 21, 2016 |

Got into the top 10 percent ranking for the first time trial on PS4! I made a bee-line for unlocking the roll, quick-turn, and the mid-air tuck, and got them unlocked easily even before I got to the story mission. Speaking of, I was able to complete the first major mission (the data-steal) without fighting at all. Game owns.

Only 8 days til launch! Here's the release trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6GQEtUREWY The atrium area at 1:17 looks really neat. Hope this confirms that the different districts have a unique look and feel. Also if you are subscribed to EA/Origin Access, you can try the game out on June 2nd (on Xbox One and PC respectively). Enjoyed the little I've played so far, but I think I need to upgrade my graphics card. My 760 isn't cutting it anymore.

Finally got around to start playing the game. Absolutely love it. Just got to the part where Kruger raids the runner base I've been actually enjoying the combat as well, which is surprising. Using the environment to dart in and out of fights is pretty fun.
