Oh, whoa! Check out the Viewing Globe, shorty!

Let's Play Spider-Man 2 (PC)

Spider-Man 2 was a well-loved game. It did a lot for superhero games and even licensed games in general. On consoles, at least. The PC version of Spider-Man 2 should've been a no-brainer, right? Port the incredibly hyped and sure-to-succeed console title, achieving near-universal acclaim on four separate platforms. But that isn't what happened. For some reason, someone decided it would be best to make the PC version entirely different. Different isn't automatically bad, of course, but the end result was so bizarre and alienating to any potential demographic that it became utterly despised. We're going to give it a fair shake and see if it really is that bad.

About this Let's Play in particular:

I'll be playing through the main story and showing off some amount of the side missions and collectibles. Not all of them, god no, and you can forget about collecting all 78 hidden spiders and whatever doodads, but I certainly won't neglect them entirely. I just want to show off what the design was going for, without forcing you (or myself) to suffer.

Without even watching the first update yet...

I played this as a kid and I thought it was utter disaster (especially after the game for the first Spider-Man movie was actually good, even if hard as hell).
And I wasn't picky about my games as a kid.
Then I read about the non-PC version[s] that were allegedly [a] good game[s].
I recall being mad.

I keep forgetting this game came out in 2004 because of how ancient it feels.

I was ready to complain they didn't have Bruce Campbell doing the tutorial, but they did, it's just not as good.

Somehow they managed to make Bruce Campbell sound boring.

The voice acting is exquisite.
The boss fight is exquisite.

By around part 5-6 you will be mustering all your will just to power through the remainder of the game just so no one else has to do it and forfeit their humanity and sanity. I'm calling it.

It's thankfully not nearly that frustrating, just very surreal.

This might just be fun after all.
Aunt May's line reading though.

And then Peter's just 'well, can't let Aunt May be kidnapped.' Dude sounds so very concerned for his aunt.
Is that actually Alfred Molina voicing Ock?

Yeah, all the actors from the movie are here. They just sound depressed.

For anyone curious, after digging around in the files, I found this game was made in unreal engine.

"Poor Aunt May, I hope she's OK"
as she sits in a van, un-cuffed, unguarded and surrounded by legitimate legal tender.

Did Doc Ock set up that Simon says contraption or was that a part of Bank Security. Seems dangerous to secure anything behind a "hit the right button in the right order" puzzle.

As funny as it would be if it were bank security, we'll see later that it's actually Doc Ock's idea of a challenge.
