I personally think he was the most talented musician in the modern era. There's technical guitarists and studio musicians and such that might have been more talented than him, but whenever I talked to guitarists about who the best guitarist in the world was, they generally said Prince. Stage musicians talked about having him guest star and him just effortlessly composing amazing new riffs on their songs, yet he carefully calculated his parts to keep from destroying the live performer, turning it into just a Prince show.
Here's an example of him with Cee Lo Green:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfpkbjDwpsY
In Kevin Smith's brief portrait of him after briefly working with him on a documentary about Prince, he mentioned how Prince's handlers said, 'Prince has been living in Prince world for a long time, he doesn't understand anything else' or something along those lines. I think that's kind of to be expected with anyone so singularly talented. The fact he managed to redirect any bit of that into the music scene, construct a legendary studio that has built the careers of hundreds of talented musicians, and inspire millions of people with his music affords him that much. I think a lot of people think of him as a joke, as an insanely eccentric music millionaire has-been that has been coasting on his early success for a decade or two, and that makes me sad. The dude was an Einstein of music and his impact will be felt for a long time after his passing. It's just a tragedy to lose him now.

I didn't listen to much latter-day Prince, but I did listen to Breakfast Can Wait just because of its cover.
It was actually a pretty sweet track

my favorite prince moment was when he debuted his new dance The Perfect Cast with some audience members up on stage, and they electrocuted a security guard to death on stage too, the crowd loved it
