I thought Corvettes got aluminum blocks and not just aluminum heads, but I could be very wrong here. It was very much a case where LT1 didn't mean the same thing across the board, though, and not by just what had to be changed to go from Y-body to F-body to B-body.

Ahahaha gently caress that, I've had a front tire go at freeway speed and I went swerving into the median and was bracing my hands against the roof because I was sure I was going over. Luckily I didn't but I was almost positive I was going to die.

Oddly enough I had a left rear let go on my Ranger at about 50 on a freeway (in heavy traffic) and while it was less than fully stable, it wasn't pucker inducing or anything to get it slowed and out of traffic.

What's the redline for a L05?

Pretty sure it'll run out of power before it can even approach valve float, let alone overstressing anything else.

I have something exactly like that on my C10 - it's just a distribution block where one small lead comes off the positive terminal of the battery, and a few small leads leave to power various things.

I'm leaning towards coolant temperature sensor.

Yup. Consider that power loss is on an engine making nearly three times the power of that L05. Bash the gently caress out of those headers.

I would be wary of swapping the pitman arm around since it should be a tapered fit.

Ah, I didn't look into it too much beyond seeing a few places say 350s redline north of 6k and that long before they reach the redline they stop making power.

The issue with any blanket statement applied to the SBC, even if you limit to just the 350, is that it was sold in so loving many possible configurations that aside from "it has eight cylinders with 5.7L of displacement", something will be wrong. For every solid-lifter LT-1 (the original ~1970 spec, not the GenII from the 1990s or the current GenV) there were probably ten thousand shitbox tree-fiddys with hydraulic lifters, soft valvesprings, camshafts that are practically circular, heads / intake manifolds that flow like poo poo, phenolic timing gears, and weak rods.

All of which, of course, become "Corvette motors" on Craigslist.

The L05 is definitely more representative of the bulk of all SBCs, though for this purpose it should be just fine.

I'm pretty sure just about every GM throttle cable linkage ever is compatible with each other. People use whatever stock cable pedal their car came with all the time in LS swaps and just run either a different cable, or a custom cable.

Just give it better gearing to play with than a 4L60E. That engine would've been a world better with a 6L80E behind it.
