So I explained this thread to my wife the other day and she was absolutely blown away at the levels of crazy going on here. : So this dude that lives in Florida bought a truck sight unseen in Montana. : Is he going to drive it back? : No, another guy volunteered some storage space in Nebraska so he's having it shipped there first. : And then drive it from there? : Eventually, but it's pretty old so he's gonna swap in a new engine first and then drive it back. Another guy is coming in from Washington to help. : Wait, he's flying in just to help fix an old truck? : Well, to fix it and then help drive it down to Florida. But another guy's gonna fly him down with miles, actually. : Do these guys know each other? : Not really. Just on the forums. : I love this place.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't you be looking around Nebraska for potential donors? Assuming you're flying out, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an airline willing to check an SBC.

This may be a stupid question, but have you looked into '80s-'90s GM trucks as a donor? Depending on the truck, you might even strike a big block.

Came in a bunch of random poo poo, Avalanches, uhaul vans, medium duty box trucks/cabnchassis, etc. Check wikipedia for more info on that one. The L18 went into a bunch of Class A motorhomes, too. That's got my vote for a final engine in this thing.

Somewhat serious suggestion: wedge some thick rubber between the trans and that crossmember and ratchet-strap that poo poo down. Add "check ratchets" to the list of regular checks that will happen throughout the trip to FL.

But we are prepared to testify in court so that such events are never allowed to transpire again in the future so long as full immunity for any and all crimes against wiring and humanity performed on, around, or in the name of activating the truck in question is granted in writing by the prosecution and witnessed before a judge.
