Good freaking lord there really is a goon highsec mining corp. I haven't been this tempted to come back since they changed the scythe.

Came back and mined for about 3 hours before eating a suicide gank. I don't care about money and it's within the rules so it's whatever, fair play, I'm just kinda hoping Videogames doesn't get jumped similarly upon reaching mining barges. My pvp guy can do all kinds of t2 stuff but I pretty much just want to fly around in something like a navitas or scythe, are there any goon groups suited for this? Is upgrading your clone no longer a thing?

Morris posted:GSF Caracal fleet (including Saranen standing fleet) uses Scythes, T1 logi is usually welcome on most other fleets unless it's full to the gills with T2 logi. Logi frigates are used in the Jackdaw fleet and I think the Space Violence SIG uses Deacons for their Confessor fleets (not 100% sure). Can't say about Groon or DJ's group. Upgrading your clone is no longer a thing. Took me a bit to figure out what the heck a Deacon is, but basically yeah that's sorta what I'm looking for. I used to do a near-perfect Scimitar in the big fleets, but drat that was almost 5 years ago now. Is small gang logi even a thing that exists? Mainly what I remember was being instantly primaried (which I don't mind) and no one wanting to fight us because we had a healer. Pvp isn't really the reason I came back (RVCMF is) but I do have the pvp character that I wouldn't mind taking out if I can find a group that fits.

Are newbie tacklers still a necessary part of fleets? I figure if I can't find a goon group with which to small-group logi I can at least run something like that. I used to fly Griffins in Delve when I was new. I was never good enough to solo pvp and I pretty much don't have a clue what null is like now. But while I wait for VideoGames to accept my app I figured I'd look around for something for my pvp guy. I can fly a whole lot of poo poo but I don't know what's popular or what works these days. I keep hearing that small gang is suddenly important and that's cool but I don't feel like bringing Rapiers and Scimitars and t3 poo poo when I'm this clueless.

Are there still options out there for newbie pvp? Kinda like RvB maybe, is that still around? My character's pretty old so I'd look like some 40 year old in a mall karate class, but whatever. There's got to be somebody that does small group frig/cruiser stuff that I can learn from.

Umokka seems to work for us while VG learns the game - it's close to the old home base and close to Jita. Eventually I think someplace quieter would be ideal. Umokka is a mission system with upwards of 40 in local sometimes and only 12 belts. 12 is an okay number, but pre-downtime these belts are picked right over. Normally I'd push for something outside Caldari space because I hate its busy-ness but there are some spots even without leaving Lonetrek that might work out better in time. We'll sweat this stuff later, though. For now VG, you just keep on bein' you.

A skilled orca character would be helpful once you have more than a handful of miners on hand at once; getting one going and in a T2 fit hull costs over a billion. In fact if you don't have one in corp already I might donate my alts time I have an orca/freighter guy but it's not in corp to deter wardecs. Side note: RvB ain't bad! I don't think I got on a single killmail last night but I don't care. Most definitely saved a bunch of dudes from dying in two separate fights, even in a little shitbird navitas. Those things are strong.

It's been a lot of years since I was in GSF, but two names stick out to me as being the friendliest teachers around. Kismeteer and Anela Cistine. So I'm actually kind of uncomfortable watching the bitterness in this thread Thanks for teaching me how to heal and also how to not die, dude.

I'd spent the last 3 days sitting in station convinced that I had forgotten everything and had to start over. Actually I was so convinced I wouldn't be able to keep up that I passed on all the goon groups out there and joined RvB instead. But then I got out there and started healing people and it was like, oh yeah align out this way, and watchlist this bait person, and it turns out I remember a lot.

RVCMF friends: I still don't think Umokka is our final home. The belts have been getting weaker and weaker each day (due to our overwhelming mining force) and now after 3 mining ops I don't know if we could do another one today. It's barely 5 hours past downtime and the system is picked over. Good news - There are a couple systems nearby that don't get picked over as much that we can use if we have to. Ruvas and Kamokor beyond it don't get mined out as quickly as Umokka does, because they don't have many belts. Long term - We went to Umokka with the assumption that some of us would be missioning. I don't know if that's the case. If VG or other people in the corp want to mission in Umokka, we can keep it as the HQ and I can move my miners on my own. Moving my miners isn't an issue, however I want to keep the orca near the HQ so it can continue to boost our mining ops. Umokka was also chosen because it was close to VG's career agents, and if those are done with maybe we don't need to stay. I looked into it a little bit and I have my eye on a potential system. Before I suggest anything though, it would help us to figure out what we need from a system. Missions? Lowsec access (for exploration people)? Close to Jita (or is another trade hub ok)? Close to Saranen (a few goons in corp have commented on this being a nice thing)? More good news - If we do decide to move, our freighter guys can probably have everything moved in an hour or so. If we decide we hate the new area, no problem. Move right back. It's VG's decision to make, and we don't need a decision today. This is more a longer term thing. I'm pretty certain however that we can find a more suitable mining area without having to leave Lonetrek.

My streak of "ops where groons kill poo poo but nobody needs healing" was broken woohoo T2 logi frigates are kind of fun. Am I supposed to orbit what the enemy is shooting at like some kind of reverse newbie tackle? The falloff change to remote reps seems to be a big deal; reps kept breaking on anyone more than about 10km away from me.

Got to heal dudes for a couple hours today. Denying people killmails is more fun than getting them. Couple days ago I asked if I should be approaching/sticking to the person in my fleet being shot and got no answer, today I tried it and the extra healing throughput saved a couple expensive ships that would've otherwise died. My ship was worth 1 mil so I didn't care if approaching their primary got me killed, and in the end it didn't anyway. Logi owns.

I was the token groon in a fleet that roamed to Saranen tonight. We got about 15 kills and had instalock svipuls chase us around unsuccessfully for half an hour. I got my first solo kill ever (I started playing in 2006 I think) because the FC convinced me to not fly logi this one time. Between this and the ability to make 700 million a day in syndicate for 90 minutes work, do I dare call Eve Online a good game?

Joining groon was a really good decision. I'm fucken terrible but I can still contribute meaningfully in a lot of ways and I very much did not slip through the cracks like I did in every single squad I tried in the bigger goon guild. To put it in perspective how bad I was at standing out: Miniluv purged me after I was only in it for 3 days for not being active enough, then I got a payment of 800 million two days later for all the freighters I had helped with. Dirt farming in syndicate pays more than enough to keep me in nice ships and the groon crew is full of people I actually want to hang out with, which is the first time I can say that about an eve group. I joined looking for small-fleet space priesting; I got exactly that and more.

One of my only two good memories of being in Goonswarm was the secret santa I participated in where my santee (who ran a JF service) requested an mspaint of his JF dying. In the time between him requesting this and me delivering, his JF actually did die and he lost a bunch of poo poo that was being hauled for other people. Even back then, 5-7 years ago, he was so rich that he didn't give one single gently caress about losing his JF. I can only assume wealth has become even more concentrated since.
