Yeah, it sucks that a company is confident enough in its product to unveil it to the public for a good length of time multiple times. They should be more like Bethesda and not let you see anything but trailers until the release.

It's also horrible they used a beta for actual intended purpose, even stripping a whole mechanic out of the game that was hated by everyone everywhere, while improving on and showing off more and better stuff.

This game looks amazing and I kick myself for missing out on the first two tryouts, what got removed? Why was it so hated?

Durability as a mechanic was pulled out entirely, because all it did was make your weapons wear down into smoking stumps in no time at all, which led to you either keeping a billion repair items always or you just ran on a permanent treadmill of get weapon, use weapon to death, get weapon, use weapon to death and so on. They greatly improved it by taking that out wholesale instead of trying to just change it when it'd still be an annoying and lame addition regardless, then just lowered the total weapon drops to compensate.

"Man Derrick, you're just awful." - After leisurely hopping out of his way with medium dodges and chopping him to death in full knight armor

*Comes back as a huge fuckoff oni*

"Goddammit Derrick." - After once again just swooping to his sides and slicing him up good

Even though I personally never had that big a fight with Bloodborne's performance, I can't even start to say this doesn't run like 10x better though, so that's another real cool thing.

Also play it in action mode, there's like no discussion to be had there, the game just doubles in performance for the cost of some jaggies and otherwise still looks fine.

I agree. If youv'e ever played other Koei games like Nobunaga's Ambition / Samurai Warriors, they do this sick running theme with taking historical figures and making them extremely cool & badass with great designs and the spirit animals they have really push this. It's unashamedly ahistorical but I love it

Though at the same time I'll say this, while I do love Samurai Warriors, Sengoku Basara and stuff like that for going goofy over the top with everything, I do actually appreciate Nioh being pretty straight laced with most of the guys in design. Ieyasu's depicted pretty good here, he's got some of the old man chub in the face but he's not a big old butterball. Mitsunari and Otani aren't any kind of flavor of flamboyant prettyman. Both the Tachibanas got to look nice and cool in their full getups. So on and all that.

Nioh's got that inverse difficulty curve for the most part, where the first handful of bosses will absolutely tear you up, then it all starts to slope down for a while, then kicks back up hard with the DLC and subsequent Way Of playthroughs.

Random advice for newer players: Save your soul stone items so you can charge your living weapon gauge on demand, instead of just using them for amrita alone. There's a bunch of sections/bosses where the best strategy seems to be "activate living weapon and mash attack until everything is dead" and saving soul stones to let you do that is super helpful.

This is how I dealt with the real post-Bloodshed's End boss duo, I had to chomp a few soul stones so I could burn biggy down and then smalls, while still being a pain in the rear end, was much more reasonable after that.

Really that's what I ended up having to do to get over the Shigezane hurdle too, because I was resolved to jump right into the DLC after smacking Kelley around.

Odachi and tonfa are both a bunch of fun.

Also big tip for newer people, fight revenants lots, the dead player marker ghosts, they'll drop all sorts of good gear pretty often and the glory you get from killing them can be spent on cool things later.

You'll see sets change at pretty specific points in funny ways, the entire early game, you're gonna see wall to wall Warrior of the West because yeah, it's the first real attainable set and pretty overall good. A while later, Red Demon starts to pop up all over the drat place, because it pretty well supplants Warrior of the West for a bunch of playstyles. Later on Hayabusa sets are all over the place because Hayabusa is amazing if you're up for using it's set weapons (Katana + Kusarigama) and damage boost gimmicks to get the real power out of the last bonus. Past those you'll start to see a pretty good spread of also more niche sets and equipment in later difficulties, DLC areas and so on, since Nioh really lets you pull off all sorts of poo poo.

Also someone already clarified but while the conch horn isn't for summons, it's still very important to toot at your co-op buddies now and then to establish superiority. (Also it'll pull enemies which helps in some areas)
