Where in the gently caress are people finding bulk billing doctors? I have to drive 10km just to find one that 'only' charges $65 for a consult, and I have to do my own application to medicare to get anything back.

The best way to curb health costs would be to move specialists away from fee-for-service to a salary. this would stop the temptation of specialists from doing unnecessary procedures. One unnecessary knee arthroscopy costs the equivalent of a bulk billing GP seeing over 100 patients.

I haven't had to buy a textbook since my second year. All my readings are put up on line.

I thought 95% of undergrads just pirated ebooks of their texts these days. I suppose if you're doing Esoteric Australian Law Subject 3302 where the only book is by the lecturer you might still be stuffed, but for anything generic paying is pretty optional.

The ANZACs were fighting at Gallipoli to prevent compulsory acquisitions by state governments. Have I got this right?

Good thing the Greens leader potentially paying people $6/hr (25hrs at $150) is distracting everyone from the government's internship policy of forcing young people to work for $4/hr and while undermining the already lovely youth employment market.

How do you internally reconcile the fact that the government let's in around a million people on temporary work visas with the idea that it's the refugees that are taking the jobs?

Is it really a million people? The only numbers I can quickly find while eating my brekkie is ~120k 457 workers in 2013, and ~144k 417 (working holiday visas) in 2015.

I got some work with AEC coming up doing all the polling booths.

I have to remain entirely neutral through the whole election.

I recall more than one occasion in Boothby the AEC staff were loudly repeating Liberal talking points to each other the whole time I was in there.

in 20 years of being renter and landlord, I'm yet to come across a rental property manager who wasn't malcious, incompetent scum.

Despite being paid up 3 months in advance, our current manager keeps issuing us with breach notices because their payments admin person can't be hosed doing their job, and the property manager is a low grade bully who would rather issue a legal threat than take 30 seconds to check they've not made a mistake.

I'm not sure how people could be describing for Nick Xenophon as "right wing", most of his policy principles are vague but seem to support harm minimisation for drugs, state ownership of essential utilities, federal ICAC, strong personal privacy laws, no university fee deregulation etc etc. The kind of things that would get News Ltd shrills screeching about him being a lefty: https://nxt.org.au/whats-nxt/policy-principles/

Maybe you're talking about the retrospective excision of Ashmore reef, requiring an emergency sitting of Parliament, so they could keep claiming that no boats had arrived.
