I'm sure the dudes buried at Villers- bretonneux would be happy to hear that France is an unreliable ally compared to a country we fought a war against

Area denial at sea is a really good strategic tool for scenarios that aren't war. Your neighbours knowing that whenever they sail into international waters there's potentially a submarine there is useful if, for example, they are currently involved in sending fishing boats and coast guard ships to start poo poo with Vietnam and the Philippines.

I like that Bill Shorten had someone ghostwrite a book for him and talk about his dad in an attempt to make him seem like a human person and not a soulless party hack who ruthlessly reduces everything to numbers until they are on his side

No but you see, if everyone has guns we can defend ourselves like in tomorrow when the war began, except they never used guns

What's the point of landmines when you have a bloody great desert with no water in the middle of Australia plus all manner of deadly snakes, spiders, dropbears etc. The country basically defends itself.

The thing is that China sees itself as a great power and after a century of humiliation restoring it's rightful place in the world. Trying to stand up to Chinese assertions in the SCS/the 9 dash line is a balancing act because, domestically, the CCP can't lose face by giving in. So doing freedom of navigation ops may end up being counterproductive because China then escalates by putting in an air defence identification zone.

But you see the Chinese have mastered the art of provocation. They send fishing boats and coast guard vessels to disputed territories not warships so as not to provoke a military response.

Which is why people won't vote for shorten, they are terrified of getting hosed in the b by changes to negative gearing

# ¿ May 3, 2016 05:50 |

Property prices are literally the #1, 2 and 3 subject of conversation in middle Australia. loving with negative gearing fucks with property prices. Shortens policy is like putting out an electrical fire using water. Good luck not getting shocked.

Essential asked "for future purchases investors can only claim tax deductions for investments in newly built homes" 36 approve 38 disapprove. 24 said it would cause prices to fall, 31 to rise at a slower rate, 13 no change. A majority thinking it will negatively affect house prices is not good for BS (he will never be prime minister)
