What is lighting up at the side? The MSI logo on your GPU or LEDs on the side of the monitor? Did you try removing the GPU and testing with the HDMI out from your motherboard?

Make sure you're putting the board on something that doesn't conduct electricity once you start working on it. The box it came in is ideal if you still have it.
