An ensemble play model would make sense- say you have two players, they could play the first half as the detectives then turn into the prosecuting attorneys. The one challenge would be the one there is for all detective-like games, making sure you avoid dead ends and never have the players miss so much that they can't actually find who did it. You might have to go kinda meta and make it clear that "This is the guy you have to get, you just have to put together a case." I dunno.

Evil Mastermind posted:I know I say this drat near every time, but GMS released the first eight or nine chapters to backers ages ago. The crunch was done. Yeah, it was lovely d20-with-aspects but they were done! And the setting was written by someone else so presumably that was done too. Seriously? If he's that close to done then this makes no sense. It was one thing to believe "working on the last chapters" was bullshit and he had something half finished and nowhere near releasable.

homullus posted:It's very telling that you feel saying "games should not be rapey, sexist, or racist" is a sign of derangement. Okay let's look at the chain of events here: kinkouin posted:An amazing game, if your wallet is fat and you have tons of time to assemble/paint minis. Arivia posted:No. It’s an amazing game if you enjoy gamifying sexual assault and misogyny. Thank you for outing yourself as a piece of poo poo! It's that last sentence, there, see it? Yeah- especially since konkouin later said he hadn't encountered any of that because of how he'd come to the game. Arguing the game is bad because of all these things and people should not play it or give the guys money, all well and good. This is more like seeing someone who owns a Lovecraft book or a copy of King Kong and saying "You're a racist fuckhead go kill yourself." It's not about defending the game.

The basic problem with edgy adult stuff in TT games is that it's stuck in the stage of "throw some giant tits on things to make it SHOCKING". There are ways to use such imagery effectively, a la Cronenberg, but most of these designers aren't really thinking on that conceptual level- it's just genre emulation still, only this time the genre is "Cannibal Corpse album covers". Of course there's enough of this "Gonzo" crap in games right now that anything which did actually do something intelligent or genuinely provocative would probably just get lost among the millions of titmonsters. It's a wearisome trend exacerbated by this being a niche industry which runs things into the ground over a long period of time- this crap is at least a decade old by now.

NutritiousSnack posted:That's the stage it's stuck in literature as well. Spalter Punk is dead and HG Ginger and Clive Barker thumbprint was a little too much for the niche still interested in the sub genre. When it actually hits the vogue in horror it will come back, but body horror always will tie into fears about aging, disease, and sexual effects on the body. That's more like a trend that comes and goes, though- there's precedent for people doing interesting things with that kind of body horror in literature as in film. Tabletop is more still developing the idea that you can do this at all, and has yet to reach the stage of anyone having something to say about it.

National Socialists called themselves that because socialism and communism had supporters as potential answers to Weimar Germany's ills. They even attracted a few left wingers- up until the Night of Long Knives. After that not so much.

DalaranJ posted:“Saints Row 1 is the only good Saint’s Row game” is a volcanic take to be sure. I mean if he's counting both Gat out of Hell AND Agents of Mayhem in the series then he's talking about Saints Row 2, which is excellent, and the best "be a badass gangster taking over the city" game. SR3 dived into the wacky and made some mechanical changes that weren't entirely successful, but it's still fun. SR4 transcends genre to become the purest and best example ever of the "Do what you will" open world sandbox, and much of the LOLrandom humor is accompanied by genuine character-driven stuff and inventive story missions. That said Agents of Mayhem also seems to be an example of them trying something that didn't quite work which was a shame.

Munchkin is a fine game to play exactly once. You laugh at all the jokes, get amused at the endgame logjam, then realize that's how every game must end and so never play it again.
