I spent years trying to convince myself I liked computers more than as things that are gratifying to use. Finally gave up and went back to school for biochem. Best decision of my life. I'm a fan of programming and all that stuff, but I can't make myself into more than that. Hats off to the people that can actually enjoy it.

This led me down a weird path of association and now I think the pervading sickness of modern America is the result of a decade and a half without any serious cultural appropriation. We fed off of the UK and Europe after WW2, we nibbled on Polynesia and India for a bit, then we got all symbiotic with Japan for a while, but after 9/11 we lost our appetite for the outside world.
