Their golden generation peaked just before England’s and like ours they even got to the quarterfinals sometimes, except playing better football. Back then the people were poor but happy but, in a poignant echo of my own life, that all changed with the internet. Now all Romanians are cam whores or colme to england to collect child benefit payments and make sand animals using plastic moulds on our high streets. THEIR GAME And Romanian football has changed too in this country full of surprises. They each boast the narrow hipless body of a 10yo boy and look like they just crawled out of a bucket of creosote to get hit in the face with a glitter bomb. THEIR PRESENT Despite beating England in the group stages of the common market, foricng UK employers to choose them over the native workforce for the most arduous and badly lit jobs, we shoudlnt be too hard on them. That’s right, the captain is spurs old boy vlad chiriches who is to defending what nicolae ceaucescu was to open political discourse. THEIR FUTURE ROmANia play francein the curtain raiser on friday then a bad termpered derby against Albania (thread here http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3779170) and then a pulsating fixture which will have all of the football world wondering where they put their big book of puzzles which will see them play Switzerland.
