Like, they rolled out the service on the strength of a loving Pewdiepie reality show. Now they have Bad Internet from College Humor which just played a string of unfunny clips from apparently unfunny sketches, and then there was that other unfunny show about dorks with an alien space suit? Has anyone actually paid money for Youtube Red? If so...why?

Doesn't subscribing to YtRed get you some sort of access to some other streaming content service Google runs, or vice versa? edit: It might have been a limited 90-day deal where they were giving new Google Music subscribers a trail for Red for free as part of that several months ago, so it's probably not a permanent deal. I don't even sign in to watch my youtubes, so I sure as hell ain't paying for it. I heard they used Red to block stuff from other countries. Something about music acts and stuff. Which sounds smart, but then again, the entire rest of the internet is still free anyway. And those music people probably have the songs people want on their own media free already, so...

Youtube Red is just Google looking at how Amazon and Netflix are breaking into actually making shows, and noticing that all the techtech startups with no financial plans are crumbling, and having a freakout. but yeah nobody is going to pay for features that were available for free prior + the pewds

Youtube Red will probably be absorbed into something like Google Play Video or vice versa sooner or later once Google can get some Netflix/Prime-like levels of studio content and they'll turn the whole thing into their own version of one of those services. The ultimate goal is that consumers will sign up for paid Youtube/Red/GVideo to get most their video content through a single source. You'll probably also get something like top content producers will sign up for Red distribution with something like a conversion of their videos from requiring paid subscription to free after just a week or so so that current and new fans who don't want to pay will still get them eventually, but those who get Red will get them the day/time they get posted to keep everyone happy.
