my city's public transport information site is useless garbage, but as far as being optimised for mobile it's fairly decent then they were like "hey download our new app it's great" but it's literally just a bunch of xamarin.forms webviews to their existing site, and app-based notifications from their existing sms service updates thing. the webviews don't even cache at all like a normal browser, so it could give you a list of travel options and you'd tap one to get more information, then press back and it'd have to reload the page, which sucks if your telco network is as bad as the public transport network and also bad if you left it a while and the results expired forcing you to reenter your query all over again. and it never cancels the notifications so sometimes i'll sleep in and wake up to a bunch of notifications about the train network shititng itself and i'll press one out of curiosity and it will just helpfully say "this issue has been resolved". plus most of the notifications i do get are poo poo happening elsewhere on my line that don't even affect services between the two stations i normally use, which is sort of okay for an sms service but loving stupid for an app also a friend was complaining about it not using whatever latest ios api, but that seemed to be in a way that was more "lol crapple fanboys" than being a "lol xamarin" thing

when people complain about separate "code bases", what are they talking about? like they says oh yeah we could write native apps, but you see the problem is we would have separate code bases. surely they don't just mean desperate code for thin client that just do API calls and draw stuff on a screen , right? like that's a given.
