With how balls to the wall they're going, this might be the Final Zelda. :tinfoil:

For that entire (?) map, during the stream the person playing scrolled that map around a bit and there was more stuff to the north. Not a whole lot, necessarily, but still more stuff.

Link's probably really hungry after that 100 year nap, too. Hungry enough to eat an octorok, maybe?

Speaking of design decisions, the gonging/ringing sound that plays any time the Shiekah in the temples say a line, is the exact same sound effect that is heard in a few places in Skyward Sword. It's heard in the main temple in the forest (where the old woman is), and in the Lanayru desert music themes.

Definitely some intentional sound queues relating to the Shiekah/ancient technology.

Not that it's not cool or anything.

I replayed Skyward Sword very recently and actually loved it (while simultaneously cursing some of the stupid design decisions). The shields were really well implemented and fun to use, for the first time in a Zelda game, and there were tons of other cool and fun details.

If the areas weren't so sequestered and the game wasn't insanely linear with intermittent fetch quests/minigames/escorts, people would remember it a lot better for its strengths.

Actually I think having just played it and seeing and remembering the detail that went into the game makes me MORE excited for Breath of the Wild than if I hadn't played it.

TBF Ghirahim's fights basically involve you exploiting the very nature of the input mechanic by doing something that otherwise feels and seems unnatural, but that was the only part of Skyward Sword that gave me any trouble re:controls and those fights very well can be cleared your first time through by actually brute force shaking your arm/wrist around like a crazy person anyway

I had loads of trouble with Ghirahim until I realized that if you shield him at the right time, you stagger him and can get lots of free hits. No reason in trying to hit him with the sword until you've staggered him, it's too hard compared to how easy it is to get the shield timing down properly.

I reject all game development directions that require me to use more of my lovely and terrible body to play it instead of a controller. If Link has my swordplay and archery skills, Hyrule is hosed.

that sucks. maybe just stick to watching the Zelda movie when it comes out then. no coordination required, except for aiming your eyes in the general direction of the screen :)

My first Zelda was OoT, but I think Majora's Mask and Wind Waker were better... but probably because Twilight Princess burned me out on the typical Zelda formula really badly. TP felt like it was trying too hard to be more like OoT, and its net effect was that I hated TP and liked OoT way less.

People getting stuck on mountains in the rain, try to find a spot to build a campfire and wait until morning or night. I'm not totally sure if you can build a campfire in the rain, though? I did it once in the desert.

Some random non-spoilery tips off the top of my head:

Weapons in general are pretty abundant. You won't really need to worry about killing guardians and breaking all your good stuff yet, so don't feel bad just running away from them. If you ever find weapons that are specifically placed into the world, you can mark it on your map. After a blood moon, the weapon will respawn in the same spot.

For rupees, I pretty much sold all my gemstones to make money. There's a more effective way to sell them later in the game through a specific NPC, but you'll find so many gems all over the place that they're good to sell in a pinch. Maybe keep a couple diamonds on hand, though, you might want them and they're not all that common.

Cook stuff! You'll get some nice boosts through cooking. I think you cook better during blood moons.

Rain makes it really hard to climb up stuff. If you can find a spot sheltered from the rain, you can make a fire by dropping wood and flint, and hitting the flint with a metal weapon. Then you can spend time at the fire and the rain will stop. If that's not an option, then climb anyway. Learn the timing of when Link is about to slip, and jump up the cliff wall just before he slips. You'll still slip a little, but you'll still make progress.

It's really tempting to just run around and climb every mountain you see off in the distance, and just run off the beaten paths. But, spend some time traveling the paths, too. You'll run into some interesting stuff that you'd probably miss if you just made a beeline for everything that looks interesting in the distance.
