Jamwad Hilder posted:I lied about the Ducks, I forgot you can choose to protect 8 skaters total instead of 7 forwards, 3 defense. However, that means if the Ducks protect all three of Lindholm, Vatanen, and Fowler (plus Bieksa), they can only protect 1 more forward since Perry, Getzlaf, and Kesler all have NMC. So they'd lose a good young player like Silfverberg, Rakell, or Pirri. I bet we're gonna see some wacky trades as teams try to get around the protection limit.

Nail Rat posted:Likewise, I can see this happening with the Blackhawks trading picks in exchange for not drafting Pokka, Shaw or Kruger or something like that. Makes sense. Yeah. Given that they're starting from scratch, it's probably good for Vegas to wring as many of these 6th and 7th round picks as they can from other teams. They're not super valuable, but the team is going to be bad for the first year anyway and you gotta get players into the system.

kalensc posted:How about the same sort of side promises where Vegas takes some terrible contract off your hands? Vegas takes a Scuderi-type contract off the hands of whoever, claims it's for veteran experience, and oh look a separate deal where the Scuderi-team sends a 3rd-rounder for some flotsam. I wonder if teams might rely on the cap floor to do that for them.

Maybe they're caught up in a negotiation to obtain the rights to the Golden Seals name and colour scheme.

a neat cape posted:So the Ducks are going to lose Vatanen or Manson right? Or Vegas is going to end up with a Ducks first-round pick. Bobo reported however many days ago that the Ducks had a "complicated" deal in place with Anaheim that let them not ask Bieksa to waive his NMC. Exactly what that means is delightfully unclear but it probably has something to do with protecting Vatanen and Manson.
