I have a soft spot for BEAR of the Interest, because that gradually and accidentally became an unironic nickname for my cat.

I wonder if this would fit in this topic? I saw the picture yesterday and it certainly looks like some kind of bootleg, or some kind of unofficially-distributed mod.

Definitely, I think.

Awhile back 2000 AD tried to stir up some controversy and pick up some new sales by doing a shock issue that apparently had Judge Dredd making out with some guy. Very next issue arrived a week later and revealed it was just a gay guy dressed as Judge Dredd, and the gay guy ended up in prison for it. Apparently a few people thought it was going to be big enough and controversial enough to make fake stuff over.

What magical game is that?

"Fantasia," one of the hundreds of weird porny Qix knockoffs that are absolutely not safe to Google at work.

The sequel, "New Fantasia," adds some new characters for the player to choose from.

(NB the characters you choose have absolutely zero bearing on the gameplay itself)

If Disney Consumer Products LLC decided to get a bee in their bonnet over all the costume knockoffs they could pick one of these companies at random and tie them up in litigation for years and years to force them into bankruptcy as a warning to all the others. Probably best not to risk it.

The dumb thing is that it's a perfectly acceptable costume to make, if you're going to, say, stage a play about Anne Frank or other displaced evacuees. I think selling it alongside "fun" costumes was the error.

YAY IT'S DEADPOOL AND... A TEENAGER I KNOW FROM BOOKS THAT GOT MURDERED

Pastry of the Year

I would like to clarify that it was the teenager and not the books that were murdered.

This is not to say that Nazis don't "murder" books by censoring or burning them. Forums poster Pastry of the Year believes that all real-life Nazis, past and present, should be euthanized.

I now return you to the bootleg thread:

Technically not a bootleg, since this is an actual ad for an actual product, but I do love the way that the Mario Bros. were depicted before Nintendo sort of reined everyone in and got them on-model:

Bootlegs of games on "app stores" are pretty common since they are easy to make and there is pretty much zero barrier to entry.

There was, recently, a popular visual novel (which is a type of game) called "Doki Doki Literature Club" that centered around an after-school girls' literature club.

The people who made the bootleg were apparently so lazy and undiscerning that they used, as one of their in-game visual assets, an infamously goofy piece of fanart depicting a petite character from the original game as absurdly muscled.

So to be clear, a "visual novel" is basically a choose your own adventure but most of the narrative is delivered in illustration?
