McCloud posted:Why did anyone think this would be a good idea? No idea, but apparently Borten would often play up how "folksy" and down-to-earth he was. Another amusing anecdote: A couple of days after the photo was taken, queen Elizabeth II (then on an official visit to our country) and then-king Olav V visited the farm as guests of the Prime Minister. The Daily Mirror ran the photo with the caption "Now the Norwegian Prime Minister is ready to receive the Queen."

Extreme0 posted:https://twitter.com/DavidCoburnUKip/status/755102430623326210 About as accurate as saying that Scotland is a stripped plaid British dun Republic of Peacenicks and Hippie drips. Seriously, Norway and Sweden both do a brisk export trade in weapon systems and military command and control gear, and the Nordic countries all contribute to various "international operations", like in Afghanistan, anti-piracy efforts off the Horn of Africa, bombing Libya a while back and so on. And "Hippie Drips" sounds especially funny considering how materialistic the bulk of the population is.

Latin script is apparently incomprehensible to them anyway. Else writing "Murmansk" twice on this sign would be unnecessary:

evil_bunnY posted:Definitely checks out Fun fact: back in the 1700s and 1800s there were several waves of Finnish immigration to Finnmark, and even today the population of that particular fylke is on the bottom of most national rankings having to do with education level, average life span, cardiovascular diseases, alcohol abuse and so on. Not to mention the fact that their original homeland apparently was so awful that moving to Finnmark seemed preferable.
